Netflix will stop working on both the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS after June 30

Nintendo has announced that it is pulling the plug on the Netflix app for both the Wii U console and 3DS family of devices by June 30. For new users, the streaming service is already unavailable to download from the Nintendo eShop for both devices.

In an advisory on its website, Nintendo said the Netflix app was removed from its eShop on December 31, 2020. That means if you"re new to both the Wii U and 3DS, chances are that you won"t be able to download the streaming app now.

That said, existing users can still watch content on Netflix or re-download the app on both devices, but only until the end of June. After that date, the service will stop working on all Wii U and 3DS devices including the old and new 3DS and 3DS XL, 2DS XL, 2DS, as well as the Wii U Deluxe and Wii U Basic.

Netflix"s arrival on the Nintendo Switch also remains uncertain. Reggie Fils-Aime, former Nintendo of America president, promised in 2017 that apps like Hulu and Netflix were coming to the console, but there"s no indication yet that it"s happening for the latter anytime soon. Hulu, on the other hand, is already available on the Switch for users in the U.S.
