Netflix's Downloads for You will save recommended shows automatically

Netflix today announced a new feature for its mobile app, which it calls Downloads For You. In the summer of 2018, Netflix introduced smart downloads, which automatically saved upcoming episodes of shows that the user had been watching, so that they could be watched offline in a pinch. Downloads For You is an extension of that, and instead of downloading new episodes in shows you"re watching, it downloads new shows or movies based on your preferences.

The feature is off by default, and you"ll need to turn it on in the Downloads tab in the Netflix app. Once you do, you can choose how much space you want to allocate to this automatically downloaded content - either 1GB, 3GB, or 5GB - with Netflix giving you an estimate of how much time that equates to.

You can change the allocated storage later on, which lets you set different values, as well as reserve different storage for each profile on your Netflix account. Once you"ve set it up, downloads will take place over Wi-Fi.

Downloads For You is rolling out globally starting today, but only for Android users. If you"re on iOS, Netflix says it"ll begin testing the feature on that platform soon.
