It was almost five years ago that the studio behind the Hitman franchise, IO Interactive, announced that it is making a game set in the James Bond universe. Just a couple of months ago, the studio gave a first look at the project, offering up the name 007 First Light, and now, an extended look at gameplay is about to land. Once again, a PlayStation State of Play from Sony will be hosting the game.
The special 007 First Light State of Play event will kick off at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST on Wednesday, September 3.
"Prepare for a deep dive on 007 First Light," says the announcement today from IO Interactive. "During this special State of Play, the development team at IO Interactive declassifies new gameplay on James Bond’s upcoming espionage action-adventure thrill ride."
This deep dive will involve showing off over 30 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming game. What"s on display will be James Bond"s first mission as part of the MI6, with him still being a recruit. As previously announced, 007 First Light will follow Bond in an original story telling the adventure of how he gained the 007 role within the organization at just 26 years old.
"The action includes everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts," continues the studio. "Stay tuned after the playthrough for insights from IO Interactive on the intense espionage gameplay. We can’t wait to show you what the team has been cooking up on September 3."
IO Interactive has been very confident about the project for some time too. Last year, CEO Hakan Abrak said that the game"s production is "going amazingly well," and that he hopes its success will kickstart a trilogy to complete this Bond"s storyline.
007 First Light is coming to PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
