Windows Phone 7: New Samsung device and hardware specs revealed

In today"s first MIX 2010 session, "Changing our Game – an Introduction to Windows Phone 7 Series," Joe Belfiore - vice president and director of Windows Phone Program Management at Microsoft - showed off a previously unseen Windows Phone 7 Series device from Samsung. See the video below.

In order to provide and uniform and full experience to end users, Microsoft will also require a minimum set of specs for every Windows Phone 7 Series device. These are the bare minimum hardware specs:

  • 3 hardware buttons - Start, Search, and Back
  • Capacitive touch screen with 4 or more contact points
  • Only two possible screen resolutions - 800x480 and 480x320
  • A-GPS, Accelerometer, Compass, Light, Proximity
  • 5 MP camera with flash and dedicated camera button
  • Codec acceleration for multimedia
  • 256MB RAM with 8GB flash for storage
  • DirectX 9 accelerated GPU
  • ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion CPU
