Nokia 8 owners can now get the Android Pie beta

Android Pie is making its way to yet another Nokia smartphone, as HMD Global continues to be one of the fastest to update its devices. Juho Sarvikas, the company"s Chief Product Officer, announced on Twitter that Nokia 8 owners can now use the Beta Labs program to begin testing the latest version of Android.

Thank you for your patience. Since you had to wait a bit longer than expected for Android 9 on your Nokia 8, we decided to make an immediate Beta Labs release. Please join us in finalizing the commercial release – your feedback is extremely valuable 🍰https://t.co/siaoX5g3vj pic.twitter.com/s33qsBAgOq

The Nokia 8, launched over a year ago, joins a few of HMD"s other smartphones that have already been updated to Android Pie. So far, these include the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 and 6.1 Plus, and the Nokia 7.1. The recently-launched Nokia 8.1 also comes with the latest version of Android out of the box.

It should be noted, though, that HMD promised the update for the Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco would be released in November. The beta version is only now being released for the Nokia 8, so the company will miss its deadline by at least a few weeks. Nonetheless, it"s doing a better job in this regard than most other smartphone makers.

If you"d like to get an early taste of Pie, you can sign up for the Beta Labs program, and follow the steps to receive the experimental release on your device. As with any unstable software, you"ll likely want to backup your data before making the jump.
