Opera announced some AI-powered updates to its browser fleet. Starting today, Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Neon are getting free access to the latest Gemini models that power the browsers" built-in AI.
Opera AI is a side panel that users can bring up to work with a web page, tab groups, images, and videos. It can answer various questions, compare tabs and pages, summarize websites, and analyze photos, videos, and other files. Opera says that the new engine for its AI experiences has been rebuilt on a new architecture from Opera Neon, its recently launched agentic browser. The latter enabled 20% faster responses.
Per Wetterdal, EVP Commercial at Opera, said the following:
“AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences. Through our partnership with Google, we are able to offer users the experiences they really want through native search and AI features, for free, directly in their Opera One and Opera GX browsers while our most advanced users of the agentic Opera Neon browser are already getting access to Gemini 3 Pro.”
According to Opera, having AI built into a browser is more relevant and efficient than a standalone chat interface since the browser can get real-time context by having access to tabs, their content, and "browser flows."
Opera adds that it respects users" privacy, and they have full control over what information is shared with Opera AI and what should be kept out of its sight. Now, over 80 million Opera users have free access to Google"s latest Gemini models.
