Pre-orders open for Windows 10 laptop that Samsung called "lightest notebook on the market"

Last month, Samsung unveiled its new Notebook 9 series of laptops, referring to them as "the lightest notebooks on the market". Whether or not that will still be true once this week"s CES trade expo is over remains to be seen, but even LG"s ultra-light Gram laptops announced today aren"t quite as light as some of the new Samsungs.

Pre-orders have now opened at B&H for the new Notebook 9, available in three configurations. Weighing just 816 grams, the 13.3-inch model starts at $999, and is available with Intel"s new 7th-generation (Kaby Lake) Core i5 and i7 processors.

The 15-inch version starts at $1,199 and is only available with a Core i7 processor. The range-topping model includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, along with a 2GB Nvidia GeForce 950MX GPU, priced at $1,399. At around 1.24kg, the 15-inch models are also notably heavier than their 13.3-inch counterparts, although still fairly light compared with some high-end notebooks out there.

Both models include a USB Type-C port and a USB Type-A port, as well as supporting "Adaptive Fast Charge", which Samsung says will allow users to fully charge the device in 80 minutes. The company claims that you can expect around 7 hours of usage from a single charge.

Along with a backlit keyboard, you"ll also get an integrated fingerprint sensor with Windows Hello biometric authentication support, but there"s no support for the facial recognition offered on some other premium Windows 10 laptops.
