Refunding games on PlayStation just got more streamlined, but not on consoles

Compared to most PC gaming storefronts and Xbox platforms, PlayStation owners have been having to go through a bit of a hassle when refunding games. Now, that process is finally getting some updates to make it more streamlined, though the same old refund restrictions remain intact.

Spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle, a new "Request Refund" option has appeared on the PlayStation website as well as the PlayStation App on Android and iOS. This has replaced the original process on the same platform that had PlayStation customers go through a chatbot to request a refund, a long process that could result in errors.

Now, users can hit the three-line options button on the latest version of the PlayStation mobile application and head to the Transaction History option at the bottom. Here, all the purchases are listed in order. Once a game or DLC has been selected, users can hit the big Request Refund button to start the process instantly.

Doing the process via the web on the PlayStation Store involves signing in, then going to Account Settings and selecting the Transaction History option in the same manner as mentioned above. The Request Refund button can also be found in this location attached to each purchase.

However, just as before, the process cannot be started via a PlayStation console itself, with it only available via the web interface or the mobile apps. Moreover, the same refund restrictions, such as having the purchase be less than 14 days old and the user not downloading or playing the game at all after purchase, are still here too.

Considering the latest updates though, an overhaul to the PlayStation refund restrictions to make them similar to Steam or Xbox stores may be in the cards for later.
