More than a year after Google introduced Marshmallow to the world, users of the first-gen Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015) in Europe have started receiving Android 6.0.1 on their devices. Users in The Netherlands started reporting that the upgrade — firmware version XXU1BPI3 — had started appearing over-the air (OTA).

It of course brings all of the usual features you’d expect to find baked into Android 6.0.1, in addition to the patches found in the September Security Maintenance Release (SMR). The changelog for the Galaxy J5, as reported by SamMobile is as follows:

  • Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
  • Exercise greater control over app permissions
  • Experience enhanced battery-life through Doze
  • Redesigned App Drawer
  • Bug fixes
  • Stability improvements

If you reside in The Netherlands and own a Galaxy J5, head to Settings » About Device » Software Update » Update Now. Alternatively, you could always wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to install the OTA upgrade.

But while Marshmallow is finally making its way to the Galaxy J5 in Europe, Google has already released an even newer version of the OS. Samsung hasn"t yet announced any plans to bring Android 7.0 Nougat to the Galaxy J5.
