SKG W9 Ultra 2.0 Lower Back Massager hands on

I was offered the chance to test out the SKG W9 Ultra 2.0 Lower Back Massager, and full disclosure, they let me keep it regardless of my findings. Anyway, I jumped at the chance due to my long hours sitting at my desk; I figured this futuristic belt could offer some back pain relief.

What"s in the box:

  • SKG W9 Ultra 2.0 Lower Back Massager
  • Rechargeable Battery (inside massager)
  • Remote control
  • Type-C USB cable
  • Belt extension
  • User Manual
  • Quick Start guide
  • 1-Year Warranty (card)

In short, everything you need to get started.

According to the official listing, here are the key features:

  • 8-in-1 Lower Back Massager Belt — The SKG W9 Ultra combines targeted kneading, 850nm NIR warming, mid-frequency rhythm modulation, and app-guided smart control in one wearable belt. The upgraded Φ12 motor delivers +20% deeper kneading force than the previous generation — no more switching between multiple devices for full lower back relief. Fits waist 23"–47". Tip: First-time users may feel mild tingling at lower intensities — this is normal and fades quickly.
  • Titanium-Coated Lower Back Massager — Unlike back massagers using plastic or rubber nodes, the W9 Ultra features 8 TiN-coated titanium heads for smoother, skin-friendly contact that lasts longer. Combined with 3,000-speed rhythmic kneading modulation, each node mimics real hand pressure deep into lumbar muscles for a layered, immersive relief experience. Best used directly against skin or over thin clothing.
  • 850nm NIR Heat Therapy Lower Back Massager — Most heat belts use a single red light source; the W9 Ultra runs a dual-spectrum system: 11 × 850nm near-infrared + 31 × 630nm true red light across a 20,000mm² heating zone for deeper muscle warmth and more effective circulation support. Three heat levels (100°F / 104°F / 108°F) can be used independently or combined with kneading. Ideal for post-workout recovery, desk fatigue, or chronic lumbar tension.
  • 8-Zone Targeted Lower Back Massager — Target exactly where it hurts with 3 motion patterns (Clockwise / One-Side / Left-Right) across 8 independently controlled zones. Dial intensity from 1–9 for gentle daily maintenance or deep tissue relief. Control everything via SKG App or wireless remote — no reaching under clothing needed. Automatic 15-minute shutoff protects against overuse. Start at level 1–3 and increase gradually.
  • Cordless Lower Back Massager Belt — The W9 Ultra runs up to 100 minutes cordless on a single charge, with Type-C fast charging for daily convenience. The upgraded premium leather strap (vs. nonwoven fabric in v1.0) is breathable and adjustable, fitting waists 23"–47". Use it at home, at the office, or in the car — discreetly worn under clothing without interrupting your day.
  • Award-Winning Lower Back Massager — Backed by 1,500+ SKG patents and multiple international design awards, the W9 Ultra is built for long-term quality and daily reliability. Comes in exquisite ready-to-gift packaging — a thoughtful present for parents, partners, or anyone managing lumbar discomfort.

Design

With all that out of the way, here are my own findings.

SKG says (regarding the Pro version) that the belt itself is "made of nylon micro yarn fabric, which is breathable, fresh, and elastic," with the center console made up mostly of plastic. On the inside of the belt, there are eight "TiN-coated titanium heads" which are all motorized for the different styles of massage, which are:

  • Kneading,
  • Percussion,
  • Vibration

The belt looks quite premium and is very comfortable to wear.

Happily, this belt is the right thickness to use while working at my desk, as it doesn"t get in the way of any lumbar settings of my Herman Miller Aeron Remastered, so I was able to use it in the chair while writing this review. However, SKG does warn in the user guide not to use it for more than 40 minutes a day (or two 20-minute sessions).

It also includes a 3,100mAh battery with a rated power of 13.5W and input of 5V, which is the standard for up to USB 3.0 power.

On the inner top center of the belt are plus and minus buttons with the button to power it on centered above the red light heat element, and on the bottom, opposite the power button, is the port to attach the USB power cord. The belt also comes with a remote control, which I found really handy, but you can also operate all the modes directly from the power button, as well as the app, which I"ll get into a bit later:

  • + button: Increase Pulse intensity
  • On/Off button: long press
    • Mode Switching: Single tap (while in operation)
    • Remote Pairing: Press the On/Off button and the M button on the remote simultaneously for seven seconds to pair
  • - button: decrease Pulse intensity

Speaking of modes, the belt supports:

  • Massage mode: 9 levels
  • Pulse intensity: 9 levels
  • Vibration mode: 3 modes
  • Vibration intensity: 3 levels

The belt starts in Integrated mode, which is a combination of all the massage modes that include beating, kneading, manipulation, and exercise at the lowest intensity.

It is not stated anywhere if the belt has overheat protection, but given that it is not advised to use it more than twice a day, it is not likely to overheat. Speaking of which, here are the intensity levels for the three heat levels:

  • 38°C (100°F)
  • 40°C (104°F)
  • 42°C (108°F)

The heat levels can only be adjusted through the app or the remote.

Usage

There"s also the SKG app, which makes using the belt far easier than clicking around the remote. If the app is stopped, you are required to log in with a verification code over email, which I am not too pleased with, as this means it will only work that way for however long SKG decides to support it through said app.

It"s a bit awkward to have to power it on through the inside of the belt, as powering it on is not supported at all through the remote or mobile app. Also, you have to remember to moisten the massage heads and the back area where the belt will be applied. I tried it without dampening the belt or my back, and the electrodes ended up hurting and creating little shocks. With a slightly wet belt and back, the massage sensation is quite nice.

For me, I discovered that Level 4 intensity was all I could take without it starting to hurt, but according to the instructions, repeated use over a longer period means that you can ramp up the intensity as your body gets used to it more.

That said, on to my likes and dislikes, which are listed below.

What I didn"t like

  • Having to wet each time for comfortable use
  • Use through the mobile app relies on continued support from SKG
  • Not able to power on via app or remote

What I liked

  • Ability to control through the app and the remote
  • Cordless use
  • Really like the integrated mode that cycles through each type of massage
  • Light and comfortable to wear
  • Heat is also quite comfortable

Where to buy:

Right, I know it is not cheap, but apparently this has several medical patents, and ya get what ya pay for! eh? Luckily, there"s also a slightly cheaper "Pro" version that uses steel instead of titanium for the massage heads (linked below)

For me, this gets a confused thumbs up (due to the cost). It could be improved by allowing it to be powered on through the app and remote, in my opinion.
