Sony announces slimmer PlayStation 4, priced at $299 and available from next week

At the ongoing Sony Meeting event, the Japanese electronics giant has unveiled the slimmer version of the PlayStation 4. The console will go on sale starting September 15 in most markets. The move comes just over a month since the first shipments of the slim Xbox One S console began in the US and Europe.

Other than its slim profile, Sony hasn"t changed its winning formula for the PlayStation 4 console. The newly designed PS4 will ship with a DualShock 4 controller that has also received a facelift.

The company is expecting new users to get on board its ecosystem in time for the launch of the PlayStation VR next month.

Sony is bringing the updated PS4 to major markets in just about a week"s time but the exact details of these launch markets haven"t been disclosed as of yet.
