Sony to rush through PlayStation store releases

As you might have imagined, when the PSN went down, all of the titles and releases that were meant to happen were halted. This has caused a backlog of content, with publishers and developers losing quite a bit of money each week. Develop is reporting on what Sony plans to do to clear this backlog.

As I mentioned in my article about PS3"s ups and downs, Sony will have to deal with this backlog in a way that pleases developers and gamers alike and now it looks like they"ve decided how - multiple PS Store publishes.

Normally, the PS store gets new content once a week, however in order to clear the backlog, Sony has promised to publish content multiple times through the week until its cleared.

“To date, three Wednesday publishes were missed and rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content,” read a Sony notice to customers.

“To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored.”

It remains to be seen how this will ultimately affect developers and how pleased they will be at this outcome. Will the rush of content mean gamers have too much choice and thus smaller titles miss out on sales they otherwise would have had, or will gamers have a backlog of cash they haven"t been spending over the last few weeks? Will developers get much notice about their releases to help drum up some publicity, or will it end up as a free for all?
