Sony's new DualSense controller is reportedly adding a feature from Xbox

While plenty of third-party accessory makers exist, the gaming controller space is largely dominated by Xbox and PlayStation wireless controllers. Sony"s DualSense controller is what is attached to its latest generation PlayStation consoles, touting a number of exclusive features like haptics and adaptive triggers. Now, a report says that Sony is looking to release an updated version of the DualSense, and it will carry a brand-new feature to the series.

Much like the Xbox Wireless Controller, this new version of the DualSense is said to feature a battery compartment that users can easily access. The previous generation DualShock and the new PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers from Sony have so far included rechargeable batteries that are sealed inside the devices.

The report comes from the Polish website PPE.pl, which has gained the information via its source, Graczdari. This same source had previously given out accurate details on Oblivion Remastered and the PlayStation 5 port of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

There"s no information on how exactly this new battery system will work. However, it is unlikely that it will go the same route as the Xbox Controller, which lets users utilize standard AA batteries (rechargeable or otherwise) to power it. If the battery compartment report is accurate, there is a good chance that there will be official Sony battery packs that go into the controller, letting users swap them out for charging when needed instead of using their own.

The report goes on to say that this DualSense will reach stores in November as a replacement for the current generation models. Per the same source, it will also come bundled with an updated version of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which will consume 3% less power than the currently available model.

As always, take rumors and leaks with a grain of salt until something official comes out of the involved companies. Don"t forget that Sony even unveiled a new God of War-themed limited edition DualSense just a few days ago, and that seems to be sporting the same old battery system.
