Sources claim Apple is planning to release three OLED iPhones next year

According to industry sources, Apple is planning to launch three iPhones with organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays in 2018.

A report by Asian news site Nikkei claims that Apple will use the display type in "all new iPhone models" which will be launched from the second half of 2018. Sources that spoke to Nikkei also stated Apple"s "tentative" plans to release three iPhone devices next year:

Apple is planning to use advanced organic light-emitting diode displays in all new iPhone models launched from the second half of 2018, according to two industry sources.... Apple is tentatively looking at releasing three new models next year

If the claims are true, then the use of an OLED display in next year"s iPhone models would be in contrast to two of the three iPhone models that Apple is expected to release this year, which are expected to use LCD displays.

Apple"s high-end iPhone, expected for release this year, is expected to sport an OLED display. Earlier this year, an analyst predicted that the supply shortages of this display could cause production delays.

Following reports of a deal that Apple made with Samsung this February, it is expected that the latter company will supply the OLED displays for the high-end iPhone slated for release this year, but with Apple having reportedly invested in an OLED plant owned by LG Display, it is unknown whether Samsung will also supply displays for next year"s iPhone models.
