Starlink: Battle for Atlas brings real-life toys to the digital world

Ubisoft showed off a lot of games at its E3 presentation, but Starlink: Battle for Atlas is one of the most unique ones of the bunch. The game, initially revealed last year, features a mechanic somewhat similar to that of the Skylanders franchise, where players connect real-life toys to their consoles and have them show up in the digital world.

In Starlink, players use a real-life spaceship figure which connects to the game and can be used inside it. Ubisoft added a modularity component to the game by making the spaceship modular, meaning it"s possible to customize the ship with different weapons in the real world and have them show up in the game as well, which can be done on the fly during gameplay. If you don"t want the physical part of the game, items are also available as digital content.

Most notably, the company announced a collaboration with Nintendo, bringing Fox McCloud and the Arwing spaceship from the Japanese company"s Star Fox series. The character will be playable through all of the game"s campaign, and there will also be add-on content exclusive to Fox. Of course, being a Nintendo character, this content will only be present in the Nintendo Switch version of the game. This reinforces the good relationship between Nintendo and Ubisoft, which is also evidenced by Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

As for the game itself, the story will take players to outer space, exploring different planets in an open-world environment to fight back against The Legion, which is threatening to consume the universe. The different weapons will allow players to adapt to different enemies across all the planets in the universe.

The game is coming out on October 16 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, and it will come in the form of a starter pack, which includes the following items for $74.99:

  • 1 Starlink Video Game
  • 1 Zenith Starship
  • 1 Mason Rana Pilot
  • 1 Shredder Weapon
  • 1 Flamethrower Weapon
  • 1 Frost Barrage Weapon
  • 1 Controller Mount
  • 1 Poster

The Nintendo Switch version replaces the Zenith Starship"s physical form for a digital version of the item, instead including the Fox McCloud pilot and the Arwing ship are included in physical format. Additionally, anyone who pre-orders the game on any of the platforms will also receive a Startail pilot pack, which includes weapons with explosive shots.

If those items aren"t enough, there will be more packs to expand your collection when the game launches, including:

  • Starship Pack (including 1 starship, 1 pilot and 1 weapon): $24.99
  • Weapon Pack (including 2 weapons): $9.99
  • Pilot Pack (including 1 pilot): $7.99
  • Co-op Pack (including 1 mount): $19.99

Once again, Starlink: Battle for Atlas is coming out on October 16 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, which means we don"t have much longer to wait.
