Steam Controller is out next week, and Valve says the Steam Machine is almost here too

Valve announced the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller in November 2025, and now, it"s almost time for one of those products to hit the market. Today, the company revealed that the Steam Controller is releasing next week. While there"s no release date or pricing information about the other two pieces of Valve hardware, it sounds like details about those will be coming soon too.

The new Steam Controller is releasing on May 4, 2026, at 1AM PT. Head to its Steam store page here to keep track of the release and see if your region is supported by the company. As previously rumored, the controller comes in at $99 / £85 / €99.

It comes with two trackpads for playing mouse and keyboard games with ease, magnetic TMR thumbsticks to combat stick drift, built-in haptics, gyro controls, an 8.39 Wh Li-ion battery, and extra back buttons. Repairability is a big focus too, with the device being easily disassembled via screws.

"Steam Controller is designed with all the inputs for you to play all your games on Steam, however you like to play. PC? Check. Laptop? Check. Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame? Check, check, and check," says Valve. "All the inputs you’d expect for a typical gamepad are right where you’d expect them, and we spent a lot of time ensuring they feel comfy in your hands for extended play sessions. And all the extra inputs? Ready and waiting for you when you want to use them."

The Steam Controller package comes with the controller itself, its "puck" that serves as a wireless receiver and charging station, and a USB-A to USB-C cable. Valve recommends plugging the puck into the PC for quickly connecting the controller when playing and to charge it when idling by placing it on the device.

As for the other hardware that Valve fans are waiting for, in an interview with IGN, the company"s Pierre-Louis Griffais has said that it is still dealing with part shortages. The Steam Machine may be what"s getting a release next, as Valve is assuring fans that the console-like, Linux-powered gaming PC is said to be close to getting its own announcement.
