Stop the eye strain: SharePoint admin center finally joins Microsoft 365 dark mode

Microsoft has announced that it will be adding dark mode support to the SharePoint admins center, starting from the middle of the month. This will give admins the ability to switch between light and dark themes, making work more comfortable for those up late at night with the lights out. Microsoft noted that this change won’t affect settings or end users and no preparation is needed for the change.

The change, which is listed on the M365 Roadmap with the Roadmap ID 552593, is being introduced to align with accessibility preferences and improve visual comfort for SharePoint admin center users. It will also make the experience similar to the experience of using other Microsoft 365 admin portals, which already support dark mode.

If you are an admin that has chosen a dark theme on the other admin portals, this update will finally make the SharePoint admin center less jarring to use.

According to the Redmond giant, the feature will be generally available to Worldwide and GCC customers from mid-February. The rollout is expected to complete by late February. To be clear, the dark mode is optional, so you can keep everything looking the way they do now, if you are content. This change will not mess with any of the admin center’s settings or controls either.

If you decide you do want the dark mode, you should open the SharePoint admin center from the Microsoft 365 admin portal and select the Dark Mode switch located in the top right. Due to the low-impact of this change, Microsoft was able to give administrators notice of this change as recently as yesterday, around nine days before launch.

Let us know in the comments if you’re an admin that was disappointed with the lack of dark mode in SharePoint admin center, and if you will be switching.
