This new accessory claims to turn your MacBook into a touchscreen laptop

MacBooks have been around for almost two decades, and Apple has long resisted adding a touchscreen to its laptops, even though most Windows laptop makers have adopted them. There have been reports that Apple has been working on a touchscreen MacBook.

The closest it got to a touchscreen on a Mac was with the Touch Bar. Time will tell when Apple comes up with a touchscreen MacBook of its own. But for now, we have a startup that"s taken up the job.

Intricuit, which claims to turn your MacBook display into a touchscreen, unveiled its snap-on accessory at CES 2026, calling it the first of its kind. Magic Screen magnetically attaches to your MacBook"s display, aligning with its built-in magnets and snapping securely in place. Traditionally, the MacBook uses these magnets to determine whether the lid is open or closed.

The snap-on digitizer then connects via USB-C to enable touch support, offering basic touch functionality out of the box, the company claims. You"ll need to install the companion app to use more advanced functions.

Among various functions, you can touch, swipe, zoom, and scroll through apps and web pages. The snap-on touchscreen works with in point-and-click games like Disco Elysium, where you can swipe and touch objects directly to guide the player.

Intricuit says that Magic Screen"s touch support also works with iPhone Mirroring, allowing you to use iOS apps on a bigger screen without struggling with the trackpad. Moreover, it ships with a pressure-sensitive stylus in the box, which lets you create illustrations and 3D models, edit photos, take notes, and perform tasks that require precision.

The stylus offers 100 hours of battery life on a single charge and supports hovering. Magic Screen can also work with other USI-certified chargers and double as a standalone drawing tablet when it"s not being used with a MacBook.

Apart from that, the Folio case protects the snap-on touchscreen when it"s not in use. It can be folded into a stand and tucked behind a MacBook"s lid to prevent it from wobbling when the touchscreen is being used.

Intricuit claims that Magic Screen offers more than 99% transparency and comes with a protective film to secure the MacBook display when it"s attached. It also stops the MacBook lid from closing beyond a certain degree to save it from damage.

According to its website, Magic Screen supports most Apple Silicon models, including MacBook Air 13-inch/15-inch (M2 or later) and MacBook Pro 14-inch/16-inch (M1 or later). Support for older models isn"t on the cards at the moment. Intricuit has plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for Magic Screen at a starting price of $139, with shipping set to start in Q1 2026.

On a side note, it appears that Intricuit was previously known as Chiton Designs, according to one of the Shorts videos uploaded on its YouTube channel. The website of Chiton Designs (https://chitondesigns.com/) now redirects to Intricuit"s new domain.
