This privacy-focused smartphone fits two devices into one, coming at CES 2026

Minimalist device maker Punkt. has announced its latest privacy-focused smartphone, MC03. The device will be showcased at CES 2026, featuring an updated, more sustainable design and enhanced features while promoting intentional usage and data ownership, the company said.

Punkt. is known for its lineup of simple dumb phones, such as the MP02 and MP01. Building on its predecessor, MC02, the new Punkt. smartphone divides the user experience into two sections. One of them is called Vault, a "protected enclave" that only lets you run apps approved by Punkt. for improved privacy and security.

The other one is called Wild Web, where you can install any Android app while having "visible safeguards that allow easy privacy controls and can prevent data triangulation and unauthorized data flows."

MC03 was designed by Punkt. in Switzerland and manufactured at a Gigaset facility in Germany. The 240g smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 (MT6878) SoC paired with 8GB of RAM, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6, IP68 protection, 5G, Dual SIM, 30W fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and dual stereo speakers.

It comes with a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display, a 64 MP main camera (f/1.79, PDAF), an 8 MP ultra-wide lens (120.2°), a 2 MP macro lens, and a 32MP front camera. One of the highlights is its removable 5,200 mAh battery, a rarity among modern smartphones.

The software department is handled by Android 15-based AphyOS, which strips away background tracking, profiling, and monetization of user data. Punkt. says that the privacy-focused operating system offers system-level control over apps, data flows, and permissions.

AphyOS integrates several Proton apps and offers a built-in VPN service and features to track your carbon footprint. However, the catch is that you need to pay a monthly subscription fee to use AphyOS to its fullest. The device works without a subscription, but certain core services and privacy features will be limited.

MC03 will be showcased at CES this month, its maker said. The device is up for pre-orders in Europe, with shipping scheduled for late January 2026. It will arrive in North America in the spring season for $699. Punkt. will offer three years of functionality updates and five years of security updates for the MC03.
