When I was in my teens and twenties, I used to sit on the living room floor for hours playing video games on my Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, and the original Xbox. Sure, my back would occasionally get a little sore, but being able to sit so close to the action compared to the family couch was worth the discomfort. If I were lucky, I might have put a pillow behind my back for a little extra support, but most of the time, it was just my butt on the floor.
It"s been a couple of decades since I"ve gamed sitting on the floor and, while it brings up great memories, my body doesn"t recover quite like it used to, so sitting on the couch is preferable at this point in my life. When Seenda asked if I"d be interested in receiving the GCP-10A Gaming Chair, nostalgia boiled up and I decided to accept the offer to see if floor gaming could once again be in my future.
Construction and Specs
The Seenda GCP-10A comes in a flat package and, after pulling it from the box and removing the plastic bag, is ready for use immediately. Good thing it was fully enveloped in the plastic bag, since the delivery company dropped the box off at the end of my driveway in the middle of a snow bank!
The chair is relatively light, weighing 18.7 pounds / 8.5 kilograms, and I was able to carry it into the house by myself without much effort, despite the fact that the box encourages a "team lift." The Seenda GCP-10A is built around a reinforced steel frame, and felt very sturdy in my testing.
| Weight | 18.7 lbs / 8.5 kg |
|---|---|
| Length | 45 in / 114.3 cm |
| Width | 20 in / 50.8 cm |
| Height (flat) | 5 in / 12.7 cm |
| Height (90 degrees) | 22 in / 55.9 cm |
| Seat (90 degrees) | 15 in / 38.1 cm |
| Max Load | 330 lbs / 149.7 kg |
The chair itself is made of high density foam with a breathable fabric around it. I"m not sure what the fabric is, exactly, but it"s smooth to the touch and seems more durable than a typical mesh. There are zippers that allow you to open it up, but it doesn"t look like it would be very easy to replace the foam if needed; I suspect the zipper is mainly to assist with cleaning.
The chair lays flat, making it easy to store it under a sofa or along a wall. When configuring the chair for sitting, there are six different positions, from a typical 90 degree angle all the way down to the 180 degree flat. To change the setting, simply pull the chair all the way forward, then push it back as far as you want and the frame will automatically lock into place. It was a little awkward the first couple of times, but was easy once I got the hang of it.
It"s also worth noting that the fabric attracts pet fur a lot. I have two dogs, one of which tested the Tractive collar for me, and the GCP-10A was covered in fur even minutes after cleaning it off with a lint brush. It doesn"t help that it"s currently spring, so the dogs are currently shedding their winter coats. If you have pets, you probably don"t care about sitting on fur, but at the very least, it made photographing the chair much more difficult. If you struggle with pet fur, you should check out one of Neowin"s many robovac reviews.
Finally, there"s a built-in lumbar support that can be configured by pulling the "not equal to sign" out. Similar to configuring the chair, resetting the lumbar support consists of pulling it out all the way and then pushing back in, which prevents it from moving while you"re sitting on the chair. It"s a lot harder to reset than the chair back, but that"s not necessarily a bad thing.
The chair itself is roughly 5" thick and 20" wide. When laying flat, it"s roughly 45" long, and when it"s in chair form, at a 90 degree angle, the seat itself is roughly 15" long and the back is roughly 22" high.
The Seenda GCP-10A feels very well constructed and held up well over two months of testing. It costs $119 USD.
Comfort
Here"s where personal preference definitely factors into the equation as a chair comfortable for one person might not be comfortable for another.
First, to put things into perspective, I"m 6 feet tall (1.83m) and weigh 245 pounds (111.1 kg).
For me, sitting on the Seenda GCP-10A is comfortable. While I would"ve liked another inch or two of seat width, it"s still plenty wide and I never felt like I"d fall off or anything. The seat cushion is a huge upgrade over sitting on the floor, and when moving around while playing on the Xbox, I quickly forgot I was even sitting on a chair.
Where things were a little more of a mixed bag is with the chair back. While gaming, where I find myself leaning forward and being engaged in the action, everything was great and I was very comfortable. Unfortunately, when I used it as a lounge chair to watch TV and movies, I would"ve preferred the back to be taller. As it is now, my head is higher than the chair, so there is no support to just lounge back and enjoy a movie. I wasn"t uncomfortable using it, but another 12 inches (30 cm) would"ve made things perfect.
The built-in lumbar support is executed very well and the ability to configure it to put the perfect amount of pressure on your lower back is a really nice touch compared to many other chairs I"ve used.
The chair’s fabric is comfortable, providing a pleasant seating experience even during extended use. Unlike synthetic leather alternatives, it does not retain moisture after long periods of sitting, although I wasn"t able to test this during a hot summer day.
Now comes the biggest issue for me: While gaming on the GCP-10A is great, getting off of the floor after a long session is still not the most comfortable thing in the world. When you get older, your joints don"t work as well as they did in your youth, and everything is just a little more awkward.
Conclusion
I can highly recommend the Seenda GCP-10A Gaming Chair for those who are currently sitting on the floor, but want to do so with more comfort. The fact that the chair lays flat for easy storage when not in use is a huge bonus in a shared space where you don"t want a gaming chair sitting on the floor all the time. The chair is comfortable to sit on for long periods of time, has really good configurable lumbar support, and the multiple reclining positions helps you get in the exact position you want while gaming or watching television.
That said, if you"re older, like I am, this chair won"t help you regain your glory years. While it"s far more comfortable than sitting on the hard floor, getting up and down isn"t as easy as it was in my younger days and I found I preferred sitting on the comfy couch instead. However there"s no question that I would"ve loved the Seenda GCP-10A if I were still in my teens or twenties, as it"s a huge upgrade from how I used to game.
