Back in late 2022, we came to know of Microsoft"s plans to introduce tabs to the redesigned Windows 11 Notepad, which was formally unveiled for Windows Insider testing a month later in January. The company, during the announcement, revealed that this was one of the most highly requested features. The idea behind a tabbed Notepad is that it can help you stay organized while you work, or however you intend to use it.
Over time Microsoft has kept adding more features to the Windows 11-exclusive Notepad, though not everyone may like the extra bloat. Interestingly, one such feature is the ability to automatically save Notepad tab states and unsaved content, allowing users to close and reopen the app without losing their previous sessions" data.
Disturbingly, this feature has managed to expose a popular Twitch and Kick streamer named Lacari who accidentally showed their screen during a live streaming session yesterday while it displayed the possession of what appears to be accessible links to child ****** abuse materials (CSAM).
The incident happened when viewers noticed a Notepad window open during the stream. Among the several tabs that were visible on screen, users noticed two of them were related to content of this nature as one of the tab pages appeared to be a link to the dark website for accessing such materials.
Soon after, clips of the broadcast quickly spread across Reddit and X and within hours after the incident, Twitch suspended Lacari"s channel as it now shows the message "This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch"s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service." Kick followed suit by removing his account as it now says "Oops, something went wrong. We can"t find the page you"re looking for."
In his defense, Lacari insisted that the files were not intentionally created or saved and that they got downloaded by some malware when visiting some other website. He said, “I was surfing a site...The sh*t got downloaded. Like, I didn’t trigger a f**king download! It got downloaded. I opened up the f**king text document. I saw what was in it. I deleted the text document. I deleted it! But the problem with Windows 11 is that, even if you delete the text document, it apparently still stays there. So, it was still there!”
Lacari has tried to put the blame on Microsoft and Notepad about this, although it seems apparent from Twitch"s and Kick"s actions that they are not quite on board with this explanation.
