Valve is yet to kick off the Steam Autumn Sale, but it is preparing the masses for it by offering the hugely popular Steam Deck handheld gaming system at a discount. The temporary price cut is only being applied to the base model, but while it"s lacking some comforts of the more expensive models, the games play largely the same. The discount lasts for the next two weeks.
Announced with a banner on the Steam front page, the Steam Deck LCD model with 256GB of storage is currently on discount for 20% off.
This knocks the price down from $399.99 to $319.20, with the sale slated to last until October 6 at 10am PT / 1pm ET. This model comes with a 1280 x 800 7" LCD display, a 60Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 5, and a 40Whr battery touting two to eight hours of battery life when gaming, as well as a carrying case. It"s an enticing deal considering how consoles have been faring recently on the pricing side of things.
The Linux-powered handheld PC with a console-like experience first launched almost four years ago, and Valve has gone on to offer an upgraded version since then. Starting at $549, the OLED version comes with a larger, more vibrant screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 6E, doubled storage, and a larger battery. However, the performance difference between the LED and OLED versions is negligible.
The 20% lower price is usually attached to Valve Certified Refurbished Steam Deck models when they are in stock, but here, a brand-new LCD model can be had for the same discount. It certainly looks like Valve has some extra LCD models it wants to clear out of its warehouses sooner than later.
