Valve unveils massive Deadlock update, bringing six new heroes, a Hideout, and much more

Out of all the multiplayer games that Valve is supporting, Deadlock is the game it is most quiet about. This is mostly because the game is technically still unannounced, even though it is fully playable and receiving active updates. Now, the company is pushing out a massive update to the third-person title, which is touting fresh heroes, a hideout area to replace the opening UI, map changes, and so much more.

The six new heroes are "Mina the vampire, Billy the demonic goat, Paige who can bring books to life, The Doorman who"s always at your service, Victor the monster who can"t be stopped, and Drifter who terrorizes the city."

Valve says that instead of lumping them all into the same update, they will be dropped in a staggered fashion. Mina is available today, and the remaining heroes are coming in every other day, and players will be able to vote on who is coming next in-game too.

"Mina is a glass cannon that delivers quick bursts of Spirit damage at range with her passive, Love Bites. She can transform into bats and escape when things get a bit too messy," says Valve, describing the new hero available today. "Each time you trigger Love Bites, your vampiric powers grow stronger for the rest of the match. This builds toward your ultimate, Nox Nostra, which unleashes a massive swarm of bats that hunt down and silence nearby enemies."

Next, the new Hideout space replaces the Dashboard UI as the pre-game area players enter before matches. The area lets players invite friends over, interact with the terminals to learn to play matches, and even use a practice range to test out heroes.

Alongside the new lobby, the update has brought in map changes focused on overhauls to lighting and visuals. Additional updates to map layouts are in development according to the studio too. Lastly, the character select screen has been completely redesigned to make it easier and sleeker to find the heroes players want. Lastly, existing heroes will be getting updates to fit the newest addition"s aesthetics and detail level.

Deadlock is in beta and is only available to Steam players. Currently, the only way to get access is via a direct invite by a playtester who is already participating.
