For gamers and tech lovers who love reading Neowin, you are probably quite familiar with GOG. It is essentially a digital storefront for games like Steam or Epic Games, but has always emphasized a DRM-free model where players "buy and own the game".
Michał Kiciński, who co-founded CD Projekt in 1994 alongside Marcin Iwiński, launched GOG in 2008. After leaving the company in the early 2010s, Michał Kiciński returned and a couple weeks ago acquired 100% of GOG"s share, which means GOG is no longer part of CD Projekt.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Kiciński shared his opinion on what he thought of Windows and some of the current backlash. Well, if you are a Windows fan, you may not like it; but there are also chances that in some parts you could agree. Obviously if you are more into Linux or something else like macOS, the latter of which Michał Kiciński himself uses, you may have a field day. Kiciński said: "I"m really surprised at Windows .. it"s such poor-quality software and product, and I"m so surprised that it"s [spent] so many years on the market. I can"t believe it!"
As mentioned above, while Michał Kiciński himself no longer uses Windows, he notes that from time to time his parents" Windows system may need some fixing, and it"s seemingly not a pleasant experience for him as he adds: "I sometimes have to fix my mum"s computer or my father"s computer with Windows, [and] like, it"s unbelievable… So I"m not surprised that people gravitate outside of the Windows ecosystem. It"s not the best ecosystem"
Whether or not you agree with the sentiments, Linux could be getting more popular or least it is showing signs of bustling activity for some distros. Zorin Group for example recently said that over a million Windows 11 & 10 users have already downloaded and installed its latest Zorin OS version.
Negative opinions like these about the state of Windows are not new, it has happened from time to time in the past too, including from former Microsoft officials. For example, back in April of 2024, on two separate occasions, we had ex-Redmond engineers call out Windows for its UI/UX choices and overall performance. And this is something that has happened quite recently too. Tech tycoons like Elon Musk have also found themselves baffled on instances about certain Windows 11 things.
We have even had current Windows managers publicly embracing Mac, albeit in a humorous way.
