Since the last few years, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi and Redmi Note smartphones in tandem, but the trend might be ending soon if a post on the company"s official forum is to be believed.
Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones earlier this month with tall displays featuring the 18:9 aspect ratio and screen size upwards of 5.5 inches. Traditionally the Redmi smartphones came with displays up to 5 inches and the Redmi Note lineup featured 5.5-inch screens. However, due to the launch of the Redmi 5 Plus it seems the company doesn"t have enough features to introduce in a Note variant this time around.
MIUI forum moderator, mitch002 posted a review of the Redmi 5 Plus and has mentioned that the device is the company"s larger budget smartphone this year. There is also no word about the successor for the Redmi 4X, which featured a higher configuration than the Redmi 4 last year. It could be a case of Xiaomi reducing the number of variants to focus on quality and updates, but there is no way to tell as of now.
The Redmi 5 Plus is priced at CNY999 ($150) for the 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage version and CNY1,299 ($200) for the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage version. This pricing is similar to what the Note series is generally available for, making it unlikely for a new Note variant to launch anytime soon.
