ChatGPT is still OpenAI"s most popular product, years after launch. At DevDay 2025 today, the company is looking to cash in further on this popularity, and to that end, it has announced integration with apps inside ChatGPT, along with a software development kit (SDK) that can be leveraged to build new apps for the conversational interface.
Basically, users will be able to ping apps directly in ChatGPT"s natural language interface to avail services. Pilot partners for this integration include Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow for now, but more partners will be available within the next couple of months. These integrations are available to all non-EU users who are logged in to a Free, Pro, Plus, or Go plan, as long as the partner in question offers their services in a region in the English language.
Later this year, OpenAI will allow any developer to publish their app to ChatGPT, as long as they pass the review process. Apps can be built through the new Apps SDK preview, which leverages the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard. This development framework empowers users to leverage apps to achieve more, while developers have the potential to reach over 800 million customers using ChatGPT. OpenAI plans to reveal more details later in the year about how developers can monetize their offerings.
ChatGPT users can invoke apps explicitly by mentioning their name in chat, but the AI assistant does have the ability to suggest apps in relevant conversations, too. The first time you engage with an app, you"ll have to consent to data sharing as the app will utilize the context of the ongoing conversation to provide you with relevant services. OpenAI believes that the availability of apps directly inside ChatGPT unlocks new ways of interacting with services, using natural language queries to accomplish your goals quickly.
