After introducing new shopping features, ChatGPT is now integrating with the popular music streaming service Spotify, allowing users to find their favorite music simply by typing natural language commands.
You can mention "Spotify" in your ChatGPT conversation to get started, and it will prompt you to connect your Spotify account the first time you do so. After this, ChatGPT will display Spotify in your chat interface when you ask for songs, artists, playlists, albums, or podcast episodes.
You can ask ChatGPT to show Spotify recommendations based on a mood, theme, topic, or plan a weekend road trip playlist. ChatGPT will open the Spotify app when you tap on one of the track names to play it.
The Spotify app in ChatGPT is available to both free and premium users, but with a twist. Those with the free version of Spotify can search from the catalog of playlists already available on the app, including Discover Weekly or New Music Friday. Premium users can personalize their track selection by entering more elaborate prompts.
The music streaming giant said that the integration is now rolling out in 145 countries worldwide for ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro accounts on web, Android, and iOS devices. You can opt out of the integration in ChatGPT at any time.
However, it's still an AI-powered feature in its early days. Spotify said that it "might not be able to deliver on every request just yet, we’ll continue to build, refine, and improve the experience over the coming weeks and months."
This has happened almost a year after Spotify added integration for ChatGPT's rival AI chatbot Gemini, which also supports YouTube Music. Spotify is undergoing its first major shakeup in senior leadership since the company was founded in 2006, and has added support for lossless music and direct messaging, for some reason.
