monitors sometimes go into power saving mode when opening programs and folders (Windows 10)

Recommended Posts

Title pretty much says it all, sometimes when I open a program, file, folder, control panel, etc the two monitors I have will go into power saving mode.  A key press or mouse click turns them back on.  The computer stays active, just the monitors are affected.  Computer uses an HD 6670 video card, the drivers are up to date.  I also turned off all power saving settings in the BIOS and Windows, didn't help.  All available Windows Updates are installed.  The computer was upgraded from Windows 7, this problem never happened with that OS.

Any ideas on what I can try?

Figured it out.  Been using a program called nircmd to turn off the monitors, for some reason it misbehaved under Windows 10.  Removed it and the problem stopped.  Replaced it with an application called Monitor Off Utility.
