Old Digg Crushes New Digg in Reader Vote

In the debate between the old version of Digg and the new Digg, the readers have spoken.

Last week, Digg launched version 4.0 of the popular social news website. It’s been a rocky road pre-launch, so why would it be any different post-launch?

Since the launch of the New Digg, which introduced the ability to follow friends, a faster architecture and personalized news, users have been in revolt, mostly over the types of stories reaching the front page. Digg has since addressed some of these issues, but the debate rages on.

Last week we asked you, the Mashable readers, for your opinion on Digg. Which did you prefer: The new digg or the old one?

The old version of Digg was clearly your choice. With a full 78% of the vote (4,808 votes), the classic version bested the new version’s 12% (747 votes). Four percent of you (230 votes) said it was a tie, while 6% of you (348 votes) said you weren’t a fan of Digg.

In the comments, the debate surrounded features that were available in the old version that weren’t in the new one, including the ability to bury stories and the ability to check upcoming stories. Many of you were also quick to point out that the new Digg is designed to broaden the appeal of the social news website, rather than limit it to its current niche of tech-savvy users.

We’re going to revisit this debate in the future, when we’ve had time to reflect on the changes happening at Digg. In the meantime though, we want to hear your thoughts on this debate in the comments.

At the moment of me posting this, Old Digg has 19,9k votes whereas the New Digg stands at a measly 1,8k votes.

New DIGG is here to stay, if you don't like it go to that other site that has the same crap DIGG carries

It's much more fun to stick around and continue to assist with the destruction of Digg. It's nice to turn up once a day, confirm that the comments are all still filled with spam, add a few more, report a few of the non-reddit articles that appear on the front page and digg some of the reddit articles.

The new Digg might limp along for a while but the site is dead and worthless. The only point of Digg v4 is to serve as an example of how not to run a popular website.

People hate change. They will always vote for the old over the new. In time they will feel the same way about the new as they do the old and they will be against changing that.

I really won't prefer the new design. There are so many missing features...

new design is garbage dude. it's just a way to digg to push their preffered stories/third party advertisers to get on the front page easier. And it should take me like 4 clicks to get to the top news. terrible UI design.

the new algorithm is stupid, it doesn't take into account just diggs anymore, but pages hits or facebook hits a site gets which obviously all the bigger sites are going to get meaning the little, independent guys are screwed and we see big sites with nothing but ads. HUGE FAIL on diggs part.

    • I did think about a Echo show once and it would be useful to see what my cameras see. But my brother got one and I changed my mind. Adverts and not really worth the price just to see my cameras. I have a load of dots and a Echo Gen 4, they will do.
    • I asking where you are from or live, because if you don't live in the U.K, why are you so bothered? That is another reason I voted out, E.U and people poking their noses in where they should not be. Sadly we still have it, Trump, and his cronies. Putin as well and no doubt others. It makes no difference what we believe, if we made the right choice or not, we are out. As I said to someone when the news first broke we have voted out, we just need to make the best of it. I have no problems with closer ties to the E.U, we still need to trade. Just don't want to be in their club.
    • So you think I voted out because i am anti-immigrant. I am fed up with those that come over and think that we owe them something. The ones that are at the moment coming over from France where they are already in a safe country because they think and no doubt will get everything chucked at them. While people who were born and bred here get very little. I have nothing against as i have said before those that come here and work. In fact I know full well that our NHS would struggle without them. I do have a problem with those that come over here and try to push their religion and their way of life onto us. My reasons for voting out was because of what the E.U is and is also becoming. I did not agree with Freedom of movement, not because I don't want people over here, but because people need to be checked before being allowed to cross borders and that goes both ways. But my main thing was because the E.U is becoming if not already a united states of Europe. The only reason countries like Poland and Romania joined was because they had no money. When my partner left Poland, she had nothing, Poland had nothing, that is why she left. Wanted to learn something and earn a living. The E.U would have us back according to Michel Barnier. https://www.euronews.com/my-eu...ator-barnier-tells-euronews Why are you so scared to say what country you are in?
    • I wonder what that line really meant...
