ANON86364
We are animals all the same, the only difference is a more complex brain which could be our most beneficial or damaging quality. Ice_Blue
unlike the dinosaurs and all other animals, who all just get along with each other... ANON86364
Unless you consider yourself (and humanity) to be at the intellectual, moral and technological level as the dinosaurs and all other animals. We are still animals in every other way. Behavior, territory, tribes or herds, the basics are all there. As I said, we are the same but we are more "complex" which is not inherently good. We are not balanced. The more we segregate ourselves as higher beings, the more imbalanced we will be. This is why we need to use our intelligence and powers of reasoning to suppress the (latent) baser instincts, and for the advancement of the species as a whole. Internecine warfare, deforestation of our main sources of oxygen replenishment, wanton atmospheric and oceanic pollution may gain us momentary riches, but does not bode well for future generations. Internecine warfare, deforestation of our main sources of oxygen replenishment, wanton atmospheric and oceanic pollution may gain us momentary riches, but does not bode well for future generations. At this time in our social evolution we are not nearly prepared to suppress our instincts completely. Everything we have and every way we think is linked back to these instincts. Survival of the fittest is a model that is seen the largest and smallest of scales in our society. The more we erode this model, the more we see devalued education, responsibility, work ethics, etc. The more we attempt to "diversify" the populace or even simply widen global interactions, the more tension we create. We simply aren't ready to move beyond these basics in an attempt to ascend to a new social level. I don't know if we ever will. PS: It's estimated that 70% of Earth's oxygen is produced by phytoplankton on the oceans' surface. Phouchg
Human evolution plans are all nice and dandy... on paper. Why care of future generations I will not experience, feel, even know? I have to admit, I am moderately egocentric and I do not have the "heart" for everyone, not nearly, as it is, but much less for things that aren't there yet and have infinite number of threats other than me. Have I not evolved? Perhaps, although I do think and with an intellectual capacity of greater than average. It seems that it is not enough. Instead, I'd argue that persistent conflict is the defining trait of living, intelligent or otherwise. theyarecomingforyou
I call rubbish at having ****ed up the planet. Seriously? Deforestation has occurred on an unprecedented scale; use of CFCs compromised the ozone layer; fossil fuel emissions are known to be carcinogenic and are being burned at an alarming rate; intensive farming has made huge areas of land unusable; seas have been poisoned; climate change has been accelerated; millions/billions of species have died out; nuclear waste has lead to wide-scale animal mutations and health issues, etc. The exact extent of man's influence on the planet can be debated - and it is only proper to do so - but our impact has been dramatic and devastating. It's shocking that you think otherwise. It's very sad that so many continue to deny our impact on the planet and even worse when people consider economic output to be more important than using the planet's resources in a sustainable manner. Couldn't have said it better myself. The sad part is that it is the politicians who determine our future course, and most of them are in denial of the reality of global environment destruction. Even the ones who care are shouted down by the ones wanting to preserve the status quo, for fear of losing votes. Politicians pander to the big corporations who fund their campaigns, and the irony is that these corporations are the ones whose policies have the most damaging impact on the environment. What are you talking about? Atheism is just as critical of Islam, Judaism and Scientology. However, Christianity is obviously the dominant religion in western countries which is why it may seem that it receives more criticism. Perceived persecution is perceived. The Rev
We're a minute and 17 seconds old... lol... And yet, according to some politicians, we did to the earth in 1:17 what hadn't been done in 23 and 3/4 hours to cause global warming. Shenanigans. :p PS- I'm not saying we're not helping it along, because we are... I just think its insane to blame humans on causing global warming. Plus, it's been proven that global warming and cooling is cyclical. Global warming caused the last ice age... We were cave men back then, so it wasn't our fault. Why blame this cycle on us completely?
