Digg's rickety segue to the dark[er] side.

It's time to stop this ****. Feel free to use as much bandwidth as possible. Try downloading a few podcasts.

I'm against anti-freedom propaganda like that site they're attacking, but that doesn't give them me right to use a great public service as a means to attack them & take their site down. This is just wrong.

Digg is a place for children to gather and throw mud... it has never been anything more, despite the potential for great things. The sooner people learn to do worthwhile things with their time the better. This is exactly why I dislike Digg.

GodHatesFags is not what the internet is for... it's pathetic.

Free speech is free speech. You might disagree with the website but you can't say that it doesn't have a place on the internet. You're more narrow-minded than the people you are criticising.

So protesting at dead american solders funerals that fought for them saying god hates their son to the family is free speech?

I didnt realise free speech applied to hate mongering, besides not everyone is in America so you can shove your amendments, a Muslim Cleric Hate Preacher recently got sent to jail in the UK for his hate mongering.

Yes they have a right to their own opinion but they give up that right when they turn up to funerals of american servicemen who died in combat (all because the policy of the Army is a 'dont ask, dont tell' policy on homosexuality and not because they were gay), and funerals of homosexuals. with signs saying "God Hates Fags".

What if your father, or brother, or any member of your family died in Iraq and people turned up waving banners and flags saying:

Would you still defend their "free speech"

I am not American and was not referring to any amendments. I'm no fan of America but I'm at least willing to hear people out rather than just looking for any excuse to bash an entire people - your behaviour is just embarassing. Free speech still applies in the UK and other western countries as people are free to express how they feel without fear of being tortured or arrested (actually, now-a-days that's not so true). NEway, that is a completely different matter to a website expressing views - they are not even similar because protesting funerals directly affects the people involved.

Yes, that is free speech... as distasteful as it is. However, when it comes to funerals it's possible they would be able to charge the protesters under breach-of-the-peace legislation or something similar. At the end of the day, though, there really isn't much you can do. It's distasteful and offensive but there really isn't much that can be done, short of taking things into your own hands - it is a sad reflection of today's society. If the government was to ban everything distasteful to a segment of society then there wouldn't be much, if anything, left to do. As much as I dislike everything they are doing I would still defend their right/freedom to do it - an oppressive state is a FAR more worrying idea, though that is the way the UK/US are rapidly heading.

Hey! Leave my narrow-mindedness out of this okay. That has (for once) nothing to do with what I just said.

 Believe me, I'm not at all narrow-minded. I'm not religious either... (I'm not trying to combine narrow-mindedness with religion, just so you know)

There's a limit to freedom of speech. If you go too far, you're still free to state your opinion ofcourse, but you can expect your opinion to have consequences. This had been a subject of debate here in The Netherlands after Theo van Gogh was killed by a radical muslim. He didn't deserve to die, but he could expect what was coming. It was wrong, but Theo said some pretty nasty stuff about muslims which I'm not going to repeat here because of the bad words filter.

There are lots of people who can't handle feeling offended. People should keep that in mind when they use their freedom of speech.

 sure he is

Thanks! :D

Exactly right. That, and the constant slew of political propaganda, drove me away from the site. I wanted tech news. Also, a lot of that stuff is just worthless anyway. I still go there to digg sites I think are good (through links placed on others' sites).

You get more relevant sites thru StumbleUpon, and better tech news (even though many times it's old :p) thru Neowin. That said, I still get sites that are lame through StumbleUpon by users incorrectly tagging pages -- and I try to correct them.

That's why I disabled all the categories I didn't want to see. I hated Digg at around election time because so much political crap was being submitted, so I turned that section off. I think the head digg dudes need to reorganize the whole site and make it a tech only site, because all that other junk is annoying, like you said.

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
