http://forums.epicgames.com/search.php?searchid=1363428 may help (it's a search in the Unreal Tournament 3 > Beta Demo Feedback subforum for topics with the word 'Modified' in them. There are two so far, both regarding your problem).

Dang it, tried installers from Fileplanet, filefront, epic server and same issue. Fix it Epic!

Runs not the best at default/1680x1050 on my X1900XT 512MB, it's smooth, but not 100% smooth at all time as you would need in such a fast paced game. It runs good for what I expected though! Played just a little bit of the one map and the map is very small and definately didn't get any fun out of it. Will have to try the other map soon... so far graphics didn't impress me compared to Gears of War, but not BAD.

No, Epic confirmed the demo only had medium res textures. They tried to keep the size down to a respectable minimum.

OK, I don't know if anyone can help me, but I've searched for awhile and nothing so far. I'm on my older PC which is a AMD64 3200, 6600 (vanilla), and 2 GB of ram. And for the life of me I cannot get this demo to run. I've went into the INI's and I just can't figure out what's wrong.

Anyone else having this issue, or know of any solutions to something similar?

i have another system similar to that one (amd 2800 OC'ed and a 6800xt) and it runs the game fine running windows xp professional. Looks pretty good for a three year old system. On my main system i have it maxed out running 1680x1050 res and it looks great :D :D runs smooth too :)

What are we supposed to do when someone mans one of those machines that look like the aliens from war of the worlds?

I get gibbed almost instantly when it spots me.

Gun him down! :D It takes close to 1000 (?) damage so it'll take a bit of shots before the thing blows up.

So far, quite impressive. The game hitches quite a fair bit in first two minutes of a map, but other than that, it's reasonably fast. FPS averages around 30, highest being in the 40-45 range and lowest in the low 20s. Seriously, after getting some poor performance in Bioshock and average performance in Roboblitz, it's a relief to find this beta running this well.

I LMAO'ed at some of the taunts. Finally no more corny ass taunts from UT2003. Also open the console ~ and enter 'loaded' and try the redeemer. :woot:

The menu design in UT3 is horrendous to say the least and the map i played had not so good graphics from what i was expecting.

UT2004's GUI was flexible and feature rich, but IMO it felt clunky and lacked polish. This UI looks slick, but personally I felt they dumbed it down too much. And what's with the game forcing you to create a user profile right at the start?

only thing i absolutely hate so far is the double jump. it absolutely sucks. you get NO air what so ever in this game unless you have the jumping boots. and even then it's slow

bring back the UT turny (on the 360) style double jumping!!!!!!

I agree, the menus are terrible. 1 great example of how i said epics selling out to console tards would hurt the game. (And like how i refer to console gamers or not it fits. They need things nice and simple for that crowd, why do you think halo sells so well? simplicity)

Well if a small download size was there goal they sure failed at that. Cause it's rather large for a demo with less content than just about every ut demo before it.

Anyway...

Overall i think the demo is "ok". Although it runs like absolute crap online. I can't tell if that's due to crappy servers or poor netcode yet, though. But it lags out frequently. I'm also unsure if i like the movement changes and how the characters feel significantly heavier now. As well as kinda unsure on the liking of the seemingly increased weapon damage all around. I'm also annoyed with how it refuses to save my video settings.

On a positive note tho: It's does look reasonably nice and is very scalable as ut always is.

Or Reduce the gravity a tad. Ever tried Monkey Moves on UT2004. I can't wait for that in UT3!

It's quite sad how easy the players are to kill. On my second online match I ended up first :s

The lag is pretty bad I might say. I can't tell however if it's my computer or the fact that I'm in Canada...

i kinda agree with that, i am usually second place or higher when i play. I have had no lag issues either BTW and i am in BC? maybe it doesn't like you cause you are from toronto :p

and yeah double jump kinda sucks compared to UT2004 :s

Took like 3 hours to download @ 25kbps.

But it installed fine on my XP install and it seems to work perfectly.

One thing that surprised me was how much it looks like UT2004. I mean it's an improvement and they have done some work but a lot of the stuff just looks the same and I'm not talking about repetition in level design but more like in the way things are being rendered. Textures are not very high quality. Simply standing near a wall and you can see ****-loads of pixillation even when all the settings are on Full. Floor textures up close look quite smudged. Less so then UT2004 but still...

Rocks, Mountains, are very poorly rendered. Oversized textures are used on boulders like a stretching to save time. Looks quite stupid. And the bump-mapping is almost non-existent.

On the + Side the game runs silky smooth on my system and it appears to be utilising all 4 of my Processor cores (to about 70% overall) but this is a similar story from Crysis which apparently only was ever using 2 cores (Explain that? lol I have no idea). RAM usage for the game was only like 800MB so its good on that front. When looking at things that are far away it looks amazing, it sort of has a Final Fantasy Advent Children look to the scenery, dark iron-black structures. It's quite sexy.

The Particle graphics are impressive, we got heat-blur scattering effects flying glowing/pulsing objects and generally a really nice design to the free-standing particle effects. The HUD is also really easy to use and isn't intrusive to the gameplay. It's there but you don't notice it.

The weapons and Character Models look nothing short of stunning but some of the Textures are a little low resolution. The weapon effects when firing etc all look great. The vehicles are "ZzzZzzZzz" If you've played UT2004 you won't find anything new or impressive. I didn't at-least, it all looked the same in the levels I played. I know there are some new vehicles that I didn't have access to in the Demo but the ones that I did use were practically unchanged from UT2004 and I think they could of at-least updated them with some more gameplay elements instead of just a graphical overhaul. The hoverboard was very cool though I liked it a lot.

Ummm the demo itself included only a handful of Multiplayer Maps. The Single Player mode was unavailable. One thing that ****ed me off is you have to create an account with IGN to play the Demo this can be done from inside the game but still why do I need to create any account to play the Demo?. It's rather annoying and just yet another username/pass I have to remember (getting pretty sick of all these games with there own account bull****. Just link me to my Serial dumb-asses)

Issues with the Demo: I was unable to join any online games. It would begin to load but it would error out with a Connection Failed message. So to play I had to host an online game and I played with some bots.

This obviously gave me an opportunity to try the Bots. They have a really good A.I. I mean seriously they gave me a run for my money. Epic didn't give them some super-amazing Aim like they did in the first two games instead they are very good dodgers they know where obstacles are and shoot around them. For instance if you run around some building columns and a Bot is on the other side he will reserve fire when his view is blocked and attempt to use the Columns for cover while other members of his Team try to flank you.

Very interesting AI Dynamics and the Bots are very talkative over the Voice communication which I found quite useful.

So I'm not sure if this Demo has low-resolution Textures to fit in to a 700MB installer (could be who knows?) But overall graphically I wasn't impressed. The Game play however was a ton of fun and I'll be buying it when it comes out.

EDIT:// Ok I just looked around the net and Epic has confirmed they only included Medium Resolution Textures in the Demo. So my Bitch-Fit about Textures can be overlooked :D

Just downloaded ut3 and I can't get over how amazing everything looks, even on my crappy P4 setup. I was bored last week, so I downloaded UT2004, and I find performance on UT3 the same if not better.

when they said almost eight months ago they were optimizing, they weren't kidding. This is one of the best optimized games of all time...

    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.
