Take-Two subsidiary 2K said that the sequel to 2007's hit title Bioshock, developed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia, will be arriving in fourth quarter 2009. The first Bioshock has sold 2 million units to date.

As development of the title has moved to 2K Marin from 2K Boston/Australia, that leaves the question about whether or not Bioshock frontman Ken Levine will be involved in the sequel's development, and what exactly 2K Boston and Australia are working on if not Bioshock 2.

Take-Two execs said during a Tuesday earnings call, "Ken is a terrific asset in the company, and he's a brilliant game developer. ... He will be working on Bioshock 2 and he will be working on a new IP."

From the earnings call, however, it sounds like the new IP will be the primary focus of Levine and 2K Boston and Australia, with less time being spent on helping 2K Marin with development of Bioshock 2.

"A lot of the work will be done at 2K Marin, but that's not to say Ken is not involved. He's critical to Bioshock," said Take-Two.

Shacknews story:

Publisher Take-Two Interactive today officially confirmed that a sequel to 2K Boston's underwater shooter BioShock will arrive during the company's fiscal fourth quarter in 2009.

Take-Two's fourth quarter runs from August through the end of October.

BioShock 2 is under development by the Novato, California-based studio 2K Marin. The new development house is rumored to consist of several former 2K Boston and 2K Australia employees.

The publisher also announced that BioShock creator Ken Levine will be involved in the development of the sequel, though his role on the project was not specified. Levine's home studio of 2K Boston is rumored to be working on a new X-COM title.

"[Ken Levine] is critical to BioShock," said a Take-Two representative.

No platforms were announced. The game will likely make an appearance on both Xbox 360 and PC, and comments made earlier in the year by 2K Games president Christopher Hartmann indicate the game could also make an appearance on PlayStation 3.

That reminds me, I still need to finish Bioshock :pinch:

As long as Ken Levine is overseeing this, it should be good.

I agree, as long has he is right behind the development this will be a great game.

God i can't wait. And bring Multiplayer this time!!! :woot:

im confused why they would switch teams...i understand maybe they went right onto working on something else after bioshock was completed, but there game was pretty much nominated the game of the year by almost everyone, you would think they would keep the same people, and try and do it again...i dunno, maybe just wishful thinking.

btw, LOC...how did you get "veteran" status? never seen that before

I was removed from the Neowin staff back in December during a near 2+ month long internet outage I was in the middle of. Ergo, I wasn't posting enough news and I was removed from my newsie position. Which I hope to get back one day :)

You shall be burned at the stake for this one......:p

Seriously though, I don't know how anyone could just let that game sit. Good to hear we will have another iteration soon.

I got up to the level where you have to get the parts together to become a Big Daddy and so far I've rescued all of the Little Sisters. I really want that achievement for dealing with them all, so when I heard that familiar lurching sound along with the creepy girl's voice, I though "This'll be a good save point. I'll deal with him later". Now everytime I look at the box I think about how much work it's going to be and just can't be bothered :p

Remake system shock 2 with better graphics and a different name and you'll have GOTY 2009 for sure.

and that might be an understatement since SS2 ita considered by over 50 publications among the 10 best games in history.

Dude, I need to finish it as well but its hard for me, the game just stresses my nerves intensly, rather powerful

Excellent game.

No... why would fake concept art be a hint?

No offense Ayepecks but once again you have trouble reading/understanding my posts for an unapparent reason.

What I was trying to say was, before the concept art even came out, the rumors going around were all saying that B2 was going to be a prequel. That said, those same rumors could have inspired the concept art.

If more explanation is needed please ask, I just hate when people get offended because they misread something I post.

    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
