I've created a few DreamScene clips for fun using Adobe Premiere and because I wanted to use them. I've posted the links below for the dreamscenes (which are all in .wmv format). I got the vids from gametrailers.com and cut the scenes I enjoyed most.

EDIT: The old links no longer work. You can still use them as reference to figure out which files you want. The location to the files are now at: http://archive.programming-designs.com/misc/dreamscene/

not sure what its like with the SP1, but i know in the RTM they didnt exactly use up a lot of resources/memory, but there were noticeable differences in startup time and running normal applications, even with two cores....i personally found them troublesome, so dont use em, although im gonna try the GT one =]

Edit. Very cool. Love it. Great Job

Does anyone know if dreamscenes in general use up alot of the system resources/memory ?

They shouldn't use too much, it suppose to be off loaded on to the GPU. I haven't really noticed much difference with DreamScene on or off to be honist and my GPU is hardly a powerhouse (8600GTS).

for me it takes a chunk of performance but if i'm just surfing the web or idling on my desktop it's virtually unnoticeable- but like if i'm trying to play a game or play a video it's obvious.

but then again, look at my stats (see sig) and you can probably understand why.

Havent anybody noticed that dreamscene stops when you use the memory?

So..........it?s OK to use it,it does uses resourses allright but minimum, and when you have to use the cpu memory it does stop(pause)the dreamscene.

Want proof?Do a benchmark with and without the dremscene(the same results)and just takes to you to do a simple task(has opening I.E)it stops and resumes after you close the I.E,even navigating true the net it doesnt start.:pp

Hey All,

I am loving the Windows DreamScenes, they do use up a bit of memory with explorer.exe it will be at about 240mb used and with just a wallpaper it is about 70mb, I do have 4gb of ram and 2 nVidia GeForce 8800 in sli, so this lil machine can handle the load.

does anyone know where else you can get the Windows DreamScene content ?

well it's quite a powerhouse for aero, as it has 5.9 performance rating for it

Glad to see people are using the dream scene videos I created. I haven't been using my website for much of anything lately so figured I'd do something with all the extra bandwidth I have. If anyone has any requests for videos feel free to post a link/description of what you want and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah Dreamscene isn't for everyone. I don't have Vista Ultimate so can't run dreamscape and am not willing to shell out the $$ for it. I've got a quad core and 2 GB of ram though which allows me to run dreamscene nicely.

No offense but is anybody else confused by that quote? :p

^ I meant DeskScapes instead of dreamscape (mis-worded). If you still don't understand:

Dreamscene isn't for everyone because it can be CPU intensive. I am using the patch that allows me to run Dreamscene in a non-Ultimate version of Vista. DeskScapes (made by Stardock), I can't run because it requires Vista Ultimate (and AFAIK theres no way around it). DeskScapes 2, which is the beta, requires you to have purchased the $50 bundle by stardock and will run in non-Ultimate versions of Vista.

Hope that un-confused you =)

Thanks for the explanation. Without you mentioning deskscapes anywhere before, I don't think I was the only one left out of the loop. :p

    • I like to reminisce about the good old days, way back in autumn 2025 when building a gaming machine was fun and the drives were about $150 when you caught a deal. Yes duh, back in the day we had it gone. Then baby Skynet came along, hiding in AI datacenters demanding more processing power until it reached singularity. End of a not totally fictional story.
    • My experience in the past with older Windows 11 builds was not great on unsupported machines but I recently used Rufus to put the latest build on a older 5th Gen Core Thinkpad T that we upgraded with a SATA SSD and 8GB of RAM four years ago when hardware was reasonable and it seemed pretty fast and solid. Customer is very happy with the performance and will probably get four more years out of that venerable laptop that he loves so much. Another customer just retired his Dell Studio laptop from 2009 running Windows 10. It got an SSD over 10 years ago and did everything he needed it to for 17 years but he also retired last year and is happy doing everything on his iPad now.
    • Apple's newest AirTag 2 gets first big discount by Taras Buria In late January 2026, Apple introduced its second-generation AirTag trackers, bringing a refresh to the old model that has been on the market for half a decade. Now, you can get these new trackers at an all-time low price, thanks to the first big discount that brought the price down by 17% on Amazon. While the second-generation AirTag looks identical to its predecessor, it packs meaningful upgrades inside. The second-gen ultrawideband chip works 50% farther than the original AirTag, allowing you to detect lost items in a wider range. In addition, the second-generation AirTag features an upgraded Bluetooth chip for extended range and a significantly louder speaker (up to 50%) so that you can hear it better when locating a lost item. Note that the second-gen AirTag only works with iPhones and iPads that run iOS/iPadOS 26 and newer, so you need a compatible device to use the tracker. Like the original AirTag, the AirTag 2 is available in two packs: one and four pieces. Both are now available at a notable discount on Amazon, and you can purchase them using the links below. Apple AirTag 2 tracker - $24 | 17% off on Amazon Apple AirTag 2 tracker (four-pack) - $89 | 10% off on Amazon Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S.- specific and not available in other regions unless specified. • I've been on Deezer for over a decade, but glad that Tidal joined them in fighting AI slop. Can't stand such takes as Spotify's: "Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music."
    • “Could” … in the IS the healthcare is run by insurance companies that make indecent profits denying basic treatments to people that are paying money for nothing. Besides, where are all the Trump epigones who were stating that the tariffs were going to paid by foreign companies and not the US citizens? …
