Reinstalling Vista's boot manager?

Recommended Posts

Okay. So apparently when you install Vista on a second partition with XP on the first, Vista puts all the boot info on the XP partition!

So--without me knowing--I reformatted the XP partition and lost all the boot information.

My computer was unbootable. So I decided to reinstall XP. I did. And it booted. But the Vista partition is unbootable (because there's no boot info on it).

How do I reinstall the Vista boot manager? (And I kinda wiped off my Vista DVD-RW...)

The program Vista boot pro -> http://www.vistabootpro.org/ allows you to do that very easily. Run the program in XP and choose either

1. Backup and Restore - http://www.vistabootpro.org/images/screenies/VBP3Restore.png

OR

2. Go to Bootloader and click Reinstall Vista Bootloader

Hey,

Ok now what do you do if only your vista partition shows up and you need to get your xp to show? I had to reinstall xp, so i unplugged my vista drive installed xp, repluged my vista drive and it only booted to xp, so i used the vista repair function off the disk now i only get it to boot to vista..ahhh  Any suggestions?

I had a similar situation, couldn't work out how to fix it so in the end i took all the boot manager files off my TV which was setup to dual boot XP and Vista, then used the windows tool to edit the boot files to suit my system. Might be able to use that program to edit them too, i never tried, gave up on it.
