Need overclocking help for my Q6600 G0 & Asus P5K-E.

It's unstable even at these settings. I get blue screens in Windows Vista Ultimate x86. Bios screenshots to follow.

Jumpersettings configuration bios #1

Jumpersettings configuration bios #2

CPU Configuration Bios

Please suggest what I could try. Full system specs in sig.

Try the cpu voltage at 1.30 with everything else at auto, leave the ram as it is for now that should be fine, see where you get with that.

EDIT: set your ram to 1T for now, you can sort that out later once you get to a happy overclock with your cpu.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't confident enough to set the CPU voltage higher than what I had it at originally.

This is my current O/C now. Anything higher gets a blue screen.

Schweet, your already doing better than me, my B3 refuses to run higher than 2.8Ghz, i think it's my board though, I have to use the older P28 bios as all newer ones have issues with Raid cards :(

I'm thinking of dumping the board soon though and get an X38 one, I only had this for SLI which I can't see myself using now and to be honest it's been more trouble than it's worth, this is my second one, the first I had to rma.

You should get a bit more from upping the cpu voltage a bit more, 1.35 shouldn't be a problem, see what you can get with 1.3 if that makes you happier, on my board aswell I have to up the FSB voltage, I have it at 1.4

If it makes you feel any better this is my limit :(

Not to make this sound even more painful for you but I was able to reach 3.01GHz (333x9) effortlessly, with your help of course

Are you going to upgrade your board?

Also, do you think I could improve my RAM timings? What should I set them to?

Well, the spec for your RAM is 800Mhz 4-3-3-15 at 2.2v, you should manage 2.3v for a bit more, I doubt if will be able to run it at 1T at those timings, just give it a go, see how you get on.

Yeah I'll get a new board, i'm just waiting to see what the nforce 700 series has to offer but i'll probably end up getting an Intel based board, i don't think you can beat them.

Go for an ASUS

I was able to hit 4-3-3-15 for my RAM with a new Vista score of 5.8

Thanks for all the help have a good night

Sure, it's ObjectDock

You have an setup really close to mine :D ;)

Hanif, are you running any stable tests? Also are you running Stock Cooling?

Stock cooling, yes. As for stable testing, I have ran 3DMark and had it running already for a number of days w/o any issues.

Hanif,

I know this is off-topic but what is that ObjectDock skin? That (glass) cube looks awesome. Thanks. :D

From my experience, Vista does not seem to want to overclock that high. I didn't mess with it a whole lot, though.

I'm using Vista x86 and I've overclocked my chip from 2.66GHz to 3.6GHz ;)

Hanif - i saw in your last screenshot that your RAM is at 2T now. I was going to suggest you change that to 2T w/ the higher overclock. also, what's your voltage set at in the bios now at 3GHz? cpu-z is only showing 1.3v in that screenshot. You could easily set it to 1.4v in the bios and still be ok. keep in mind that youre using stock cooling. youre reaching your limits w/ that cooling.

also, you board should have a bios setting called "voltage dampering" or something to that effect. I have mine turned on. it helps to minimize vdroop under load, thus increasing stability.

Hi, I'm new to all this OCing - coming from Mac.

I have a P5K-E WiFi A/P - with Q600 core2 quad and 4gb of Team Xtream.

No mater what ratio I input into CPU ratio - it always defaults to X6 - when I look at it in CPUID

I see Core Speed is always changing - sometimes up to 3006.0MHz - but the multiplier is still x6

the Dram is 5 5 5 15 2T ratio 1:1

just wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Sorry - no screen grabs as I'm using a Mac keyboard and can't work out how to remap keys

Go in the BIOS and look under the Advanced>CPU Configuration, Disable C1E, also Disable SpeedStep if it's listed. Then you can set your CPU Ratio.

Thanks crash - running @ 3.02GHz

The multiplier stays at 9 - but the freq still fluctuates a few points only

I disabled C1E - but couldn't find an entry for Speedstep

Wondering if that's what ASUS calls N.O.S - ( non-delay overclocking system) ?

OX86 loves the new tweaks too :)

There was a SpeedStep option in the older BIOS, but seems to have disappeared in the newer ones. Mine fluctuates by a couple of MHz too, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. ;)

Can I ask what dock that is you're using?

vista doesnt have anything with oc

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
