7-Zip 4.48 beta

Recommended Posts

Looks like a minor bug-fix release...

What's new, as per Igor Pavlov:

- Encryption strength for .7z format was increased.

Now it uses random initialization vectors.

- Some bugs were fixed.

The latest stable release is 4.42.

^Just remove the toolbar buttons and it fits almost perfect imo. I rarely use the ui anyways. Usually just rightclick and extract or rightclick and add.

7zip is the best freeware compression software out there imo. :)

I use it for the compression, who cares about the encryption? There are better programs like PGP or TrueCrypt anyways. If you ask me, they should provide a version with optional encryption - it'll be useful when compressing those large files.

If you just mean the buttons and not the overall design...

First you have to download and install the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 C++ Redistributable Pacakge:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...4d-389c36f85647

1) No install archive http://mysite.verizon.net/hartsec/files/7z447_archive.exe

2) MSI Installer http://mysite.verizon.net/hartsec/files/7z447_msi.exe

Note that this is a recompiled 32bit v4.47. I'll recompile a 32 bit v4.48 version sometime this week.

All changed source material is included as are the icons.

It looks like crap on Windows 2000 I know. This is really for Windows XP and up with 32bit color depth.

** There was no tango icon for "Move" so I made my own. If anyone has a better idea for one just let me know. Also if anyone wants to make a tango program icon for 7zip, I could easily add it instead of the current one.

Cheers
