Wish I had enough effort to cable tidy and organise like that! Luckily with my desk cables can tuck behind it without being seen. Cool workstation though!

Indeed. It's like 400 zip ties altogether. =) But with open glass desks like this it's a must.

Hi, I just finished my new computer desk and thought you might be interested. I have been lurking on the boards for a while but decided to register to show off my new toy.

It's... it's beautiful... What monitor or TV is that middle display?

Another who likes a glass desk.

wow you designed that?

how much did it cost in total? if you built that yourself you could probably become a very wealthy man by making and selling them.

It is hard to say what it cost me, I got the steel for free and the chair for free from work as they were throwing them out but I had to buy a lot of tools to finish the job and paint, consumables etc so I would estimate about $1500 but almost none of it is on the actual desk.

I really don't think there would be a market for something like this, it was just something to make while I taught myself to weld (I work in IT). The chair is very heavy and although I have a design in my head for a more refined version that is also made of wood, I won't have the time to make it for a while as I have other projects that need tending to.

I have a playlist of videos I made during the build, you can see how it started out as a really terrible idea and evolved to something better.

Cheers.

Sorry for not providing the full workstation, but I am organizing it after building my beast.

My beast is finally built and tweaked the way I like it.

Specs:

- Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz (Automatic Overclocked to 4.5GHz)

- 8GB Patriot Sector 5 1600MHz RAM

- MSI ATI Radeon HD6950 2GB DDR5 Twin Frozr III

- ASUS P8P67 LE Rev 3.0

- Corsair TX 650W Gold Power Rating

- CoolerMaster HAF+

The build gives an awesome experience;

- Starcraft 2 - 120FPS

- Battlefield 3 - 68FPS

- Star Wars: The Old Republic - 98FPS

- Diablo 3: IS GOING TO BE AWESOMEE!!!!!!

For those interested in building this, these are all TigerDirect.ca components at $960 + tax.

This stock cooler is very impressive actually. It doesn't make noise. System is very quiet and the only noise is the 200mm fan at the top. This cooler was able to run Battlefield 3 at 4.3Ghz at 41C degrees. My buddy has the same i5 2500k with liquid cooling and he is getting about 40C on his for BF3 at 4.3Ghz.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
