Trailer rebuild for my Dad's 70th birthday.

I just posted some pictures on Flickr of the rebuild I did on my Dad's trailer for his 70th birthday. He's had this thing for years and it has slowly rotted to the point where I was able to remove most of the wood simply by pulling on it with my hands. I think it came out pretty good, although it could have been better if I'd had more time.

I had thought about using metal for it, but:

1. it would have been far more expensive

2. I don't have the necessary tools to work with it properly

3. I wouldn't have had enough time to get it done

and 4. I wanted to keep the same style of the original with only minor improvements (the original didn't have a tailgate)

The wood I used was Yellawood pressure treated pine, with Behr waterproofing deck stain over the top of it. The combination should last quite a long time.

Yesterday was actually his birthday, but I won't be able to bring it to him till Thursday since he and my Mom are on a church retreat the first part of the week. I'm making a trip down to their house anyway to bring some stuff that I'm putting in storage for our upcoming move.

I saw the thread title and thought that it was about a trailer to live in. Damn trailer trash :p

I wondered how many people were going to think that.

Thanks. I actually got all of it done in about a week. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it.

From my experience, there's nothing that makes a parent as happy as receiving a thoughtful gift from their child.

And chalk me up as another one who was confused on your usage of trailer. :p

Nice job man and congrats with your fathers 70th!

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to seeing him tomorrow to give it to him. My Mom has done a good job of keeping it a secret from him, so I really do expect him to be surprised.
