Southern Patriot
I just posted some pictures on Flickr of the rebuild I did on my Dad's trailer for his 70th birthday. He's had this thing for years and it has slowly rotted to the point where I was able to remove most of the wood simply by pulling on it with my hands. I think it came out pretty good, although it could have been better if I'd had more time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nudistcoupleinmississippi/sets/72157629199829883/ Before and after shots: Packet1009, ozgeek and Steven P. 3 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1056308-trailer-rebuild-for-my-dads-70th-birthday/ Share on other sites
ozgeek
Looks great. Could have used steel or metal. They last longer than wood. But otherwise a job well done :) I'm sure your father would love it. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1056308-trailer-rebuild-for-my-dads-70th-birthday/#findComment-594636810 Share on other sites
Japlabot
I saw the thread title and thought that it was about a trailer to live in. Southern Patriot
I had thought about using metal for it, but: 1. it would have been far more expensive 2. I don't have the necessary tools to work with it properly 3. I wouldn't have had enough time to get it done and 4. I wanted to keep the same style of the original with only minor improvements (the original didn't have a tailgate) The wood I used was Yellawood pressure treated pine, with Behr waterproofing deck stain over the top of it. The combination should last quite a long time. Yesterday was actually his birthday, but I won't be able to bring it to him till Thursday since he and my Mom are on a church retreat the first part of the week. I'm making a trip down to their house anyway to bring some stuff that I'm putting in storage for our upcoming move. I saw the thread title and thought that it was about a trailer to live in. Damn trailer trash :p I wondered how many people were going to think that. Seizure1990
Thanks. I actually got all of it done in about a week. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it. From my experience, there's nothing that makes a parent as happy as receiving a thoughtful gift from their child. And chalk me up as another one who was confused on your usage of trailer. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1056308-trailer-rebuild-for-my-dads-70th-birthday/#findComment-594638060 Share on other sites

I'm really looking forward to seeing him tomorrow to give it to him. My Mom has done a good job of keeping it a secret from him, so I really do expect him to be surprised. Androidslave
Nice job. One other thing of course is that metal is a lot heavier and your dad is 70 so wood is better!. Well done.
