Hackers group posts police chiefs' information online

The Charleston Gazette

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking for the people responsible for leaking the home addresses, home phone numbers and cellphone numbers of every police chief in West Virginia, according to the president of a statewide police chiefs organization.

William Roper, president of the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association, said his organization's website was compromised Monday by a group associated with Anonymous, an international hacker group with a stated mission of protecting free speech and fighting anti-piracy laws.

The subgroup, which calls itself "CabinCr3w," posted the personal information of more than 156 police officers, including current and retired police chiefs, to a public website.

The information was announced on Twitter, directing users to a website with a banner message warning that "police departments across the United States [have] become more militrarized [sic] and weaponized at our expense."

"We are here to remind you that we the taxpayers pay your exorbitant salaries, and those salaries of your officers. Your job is to protect and serve, not brutalize the very people that pay your wages," CabinCr3w's message reads. "Muzzle your dogs of war, or we will expose more of your sensative [sic] information."

Roper, who is also the Ranson chief of police, said he has been in contact with the FBI since Monday morning about its investigation.

He said the hackers gained only "very basic information" pertaining to the association's members contact information and the association's meeting minutes.

The association has a new website and the hackers gained the information from the old website, he said.

I'm usually for anonymous-related "attacks."

I'm pro-chaos, pro-change, pro-question your government and don't be a sheep... W/e you wanna call it.

However, this one, even for them, seems out-of-line unless they are going to expose some type of corruption associated with these officers that they've exposed.

My math teacher in middle school was married to the town's chief of police. An article like this makes me think of possible risks and dangers to the wives and children involved.

I think their point is that the police system is corrupt beyond belief now, and that all must be held accountable. A good cop wouldn't let a bad cop keep doing what they do, but we are seeing that more often now. Cops just letting others get away with murder and abuse. They need to be held to the highest extent of the law, in both respect and punishment.

Citizens don't take an oath to obey the law, they just try. Cops, Politicians, and others in government do take an oath, and as such, should be held accountable for their actions, or lack there of.

Dude, you seem like the type of person that wants all Governments taken down. Well if you had your way then "Rape and Murder" would be the most popular thing today in your back yard, you could not go out on the street without worrying about loosing your life. Anarchy would create allot more chaos in this world. This world works like a battery, it needs "negative" and "Positive" to work properly. Without "Bad" there wouldn't be "Good". **** just balances out in the end. Without bad cops, we would not value the good cops. Without good cops, the bad cops would not be brought to justice. It just works out that way. Take it or leave it because if you don't like it then you don't belong in this universe.

Dude, you seem like the type of person that just blindly believes the government does no evil, and that all laws are always right....

Seriously, You don't even seem to comprehend the abuse that happens in the police ranks. My uncle who was in the force for 20 years quit about 10 years ago, due to how bad it was getting. He no longer believes or trust the law from his own personal experience. Not only have I heard his stories, there are plenty of stories online that document how cops lie, abuse, and get away with such actions day in and day out. Sure, there are some good cops, but most are not. And again, A good cop wouldn't let a bad cop get away with their behaviors. But many do. Your logic about not valueing good cops without bad cops is just stupid in itself. Good cops don't need bad cops to be good. Good cops can be good by displaying actions that respect and protect the citizens. I may not belong in in your "universe", and that's dandy, because I live in the real world.

Sure, what anon did may not be right, but just because someone is a cop, doesn't make them superior and give any more reason to trust them. They are still human, and humans with power normally abuse it. History is valid proof of that. To deny such evidence is ignorance at it's greatest and worst.

    • Sorry to be that guy but, Given Trump won again even after a failed first term it would appear attacking the other side is how to gain Government in America. Voters when it came down to it didn't give a s**t about those Democratic achievements and voted for Trump over an intelligent, qualified mixed race woman. We need to face up to this uncomfortable reality. There are more Americacan voters who support racism and christian bigotry along with defending and supporting pedophilia, adjudicated rapists, multiple time convicted felons etc than those who don't. Btw, that is how the world sees America now. Not that Trump voters care as they attempt to cocoon themselves in a **** bubble.
    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
