Pregnant teenager shoots intruder through doggy door

GLENDALE, AZ - A pregnant 17-year-old Glendale girl says she grabbed a gun and opened fire on a man breaking in to her house.

Laycee Lowe pulled the trigger through the doggy door hoping it would scare off the man.

The teen was home alone Monday morning near Maryland and 71st avenues when she opened fire on the burglar, she told ABC15.

Lowe said she wasn't sure if she hit the man, but knows that she scared him.

"I know I don't have the best shot ever, so I just got up close," she said.

The teenager, who is expecting her first child at the end of the month, said she had only fired a gun for target practice before this incident.

Lowe believes the man was canvassing the house earlier before he tried to break in.

She said the man was wearing a thick winter hat with ear flaps.

Police have not made any arrests, she told ABC15.

Good for defending herself, but if she's gonna shoot a gun, she needs to learn how to shoot a gun. You can't just stick it through a doggy door and fire, that shot can go anywhere.

I bet the father is wishing he did that. :shifty:

In all seriousness though, it doesn't sound like she has a firearm license, and if that's the case she could be charged, since the registered gun owner wasn't there

She would technically illegally be in posession of a firearm

Killing some one is illegal but killing some one in self defense is not.. Any mean or tool used would fall under the right to self defend !!

What may lead the family in trouble if there is no valid firearm license for any one of the family, since it may bring out the question as what was the gun doing in the house in first place..

I've never heard of a place where you had to have a license just to own a gun. To carry one concealed, yes, but just to own one, never seen it. Not saying it doesn't exist, but in the majority of places(at least as far as I've seen) you can own a gun without any kind of registration or license.

She couldn't purchase one, but in Arizona an emancipated minor (living on their own) could be given a long gun (rifle or shotgun) by their parents for in-home protection. If living in their parents home they can defend themselves by any available means.

And for the record: I had a hunting bow with razor edged arrows at 8, got my first long gun before I was 10 and had a lever-action 30-30 by ~12.
