PS4 seems to block used games.

Recommended Posts

But PlayStation 4, for all we know, might function just like the Xbox One does when it comes to your game discs. Nobody wants to say yet because they believe that the response will focus too hard on what game buyers are losing ? the unfettered ability to rent, lend, and resell discs. What Microsoft and Sony need to sell is the idea that restrictions on used games are a byproduct of efforts to improve the gaming experience, either with online connections or disc-free installs.

I think Baji's hit the meltdown stage

"for all we know" said during a hands on analysis with the Xbox One.

Nope just trying to balance the FUD here :p

Baji is just upset that there is something bad that could be said about the next Xbox iteration. So he is looking for something that will make the ps4 look bad. I am surprised there hasn't been a post from him saying something like: The XboX uses 1w less power than the ps4, so after 50 years you will have saved 10$ on your hydro bills.

Or may be I am using the same article from Wired that Audio and others are using to troll Xbox threads to draw the same pointless conclusion when neither company has said any such thing.

How are we "trolling" Xbox threads, we are just posting what other people are saying about the new Xbox.

Trolling would be creating a PS4 bash thread like a child just because you don't like people speaking bad of Xbox.

already abbreviating the Xbox One, Jason?

how about XOne - pronounced Zone?

Was just using the name they had on the green back ground of the new console.

Xone, and X1 does sound like a cool abbreviation. Odd thing is when I hear Xbox One, I think of the original xbox :(

There is a difference between blocking and charging a fee. He doesn't say that there won't be a fee. He also says 'my expectation' meaning he doesn't know for sure.

Agree, not sure if sony will force used games to work w/o fee to try and get customers away from to MS, or if they will join the crowd to try and force it on the console industry.

how am I bashing if I am quoting the same article that Audio quoted?

The article that is talking about fact from Microsofts mouth and conjecture about the PS4 by the article writer, you created this thread like a child just because someone was bashing your precious Xbox.

You seem to confuse facts and guesses. I am making the same guesses and jumping to conclusion that happened with Xbox. No one knows if Microsoft will block used games for sure. Heck even Wired article says that.

Then why even bother at all?

Play your ****ing games and grow the **** up.

Is that enough for you?

?Used games can play on PS4,?Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.

That rules nothing out with regards to used games. It only confirms that used games can play on the PS4. Just as used games can play on the X1. It doesn't say anything about how that will be handled, license transfers, etc.

No. That's Kotaku guessing.

Neither Microsoft nor Sony has clearly said if you can play used games. All they have said is "you can play used games".

If EA is really ditching its online pass, you can be rest assured Sony is doing the same thing as MS or EA isn't selling for the PS4. I wonder which it is.

EA cannot chuck away millions, if not billions in revenue from sales, but they can do exactly what they have, get into bed with MS as much as possible (DLC, be at their event). Their CEO has stepped down and they're not making their financial forecasts and suddenly EA can go Xbox exclusive?

Honestly, genuinely think about it, FIFA 13 has sold about 6.5 million units on the PS3 alone. Then there was FIFA 12, FIFA 11, and you get the jist of it. That's ONE EA published game alone.

It's nothing more than either a wet dream fantasy, or a disalusion at the amount of money we're talking about thinking a behemoth like EA would go exclusive to either console whilst they remain a 3rd party. Sure someone BUYS EA its a different story, but good luck ponying up for that deal.

That's the point dude. They aren't going to go exclusive, so the bet is on Sony doing something similar to Microsoft. Otherwise EA would still have the online pass program active for PS4 games. They aren't just going to give up the revenue that that program has created - we know pretty well now that that isn't how they operate.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard
    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
