I installed firefox UX, just to have a look, and it has taken over the association for http links, from within OneNote, or for any other application for that matter.

I use Aurora as my main browser, but I cannot get windows 8 to change the association back to this, via regular methods.

Aurora is still the default for html files, etc.

Set Default Programs > Aurora > Set this program as default. = No change

Set Default Programs > Aurora > Choose defaults for this program. = Check boxes are unresponsive, but not greyed out. Extensions are all Aurora, but Protocols are all UX

Set Associations > HTTP > Change Program = Aurora is not listed, though chrome and IE are, and there is no option to browse for another program (apart from within the windows 8 app store)

After choosing Chrome, from Set Associations, the check boxes in Set Default Programs > Aurora > Choose defaults for this program, become active again, but putting a check in the box and choosing Save results in UX becoming the default again.

I have tried reinstalling Aurora, but again, no change.

Slightly worried about uninstalling UX, as I'm not sure what unexpected crap it might pull on me.

I did try renaming it, in the hope that windows would ask me for an alternative application when it wasn't found, but that didn't happen.

Also had a look in and around this location...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.htm

On the off chance that I would see something obvious that I could edit, but again, no joy.

Pulling my hair out here :(

Still haven't been able to resolve this.

I uninstalled UX, and it took all the add-ons and settings for Aurora with it. (should have seen that coming) :/

So, anybody know how I can get Aurora to be the default for handling protocols again?

It's starting to look like the age old advice will be heading my way soon... Reinstall Windows
