Office 16 unveiled: Pre-release bits showcase new black theme, Tell Me and more

Recommended Posts

Microsoft is currently in the process of developing and testing its next version of Office, currently codenamed Office 16. This new version of Office is rumored to be the first iteration of the suite to include dedicated touch-first Modern UI apps. Microsoft has issued a private group of users an early build of Office 16, and we've managed to get our hands on with this pre-release build.

For those keeping count, this pre-release build of Office 16 reads 16.0.3030.1016. Included in this build is as follows:

  • Tell Me
  • Insert images with the correct orientation
  • Enable pan and zoom while loading large Charts/SmartArt
  • BI in Excel - upgrade, backend DLL, search in field list
  • Timeline View - Multiple Timeline Bars and Custom Date Ranges
  • Attaching/Sharing Most Recently Used (MRU) local and cloud files on OneDrive (Consumer and Business) and SharePoint
  • Accessibility (Keyboard access for Shape Panel) in Visio
  • Content Refresh in Visio
  • Information Rights Management (IRM) protection now added for Visio files
  • Black Theme
  • Lean Outlook storage footprint on small devices
  • Visio Getting Started Feature

It does... so does this come out before a new Mac version is released? Office for Mac is well overdue for an update.

It just keeps getting uglier

So do you :p

In all seriousness, how is this uglier, you like the office 2003 toolbars and cacophony of interface or the Office 2007 gradient eye candy more than this? Wow. You have no design taste even Apple would accept the 2015 over the 2003 version if you put a gun to their head.

Can't wait for Office 2015 because judging by this changelog so far, it's gonna be a great release!

The Office 2007 blue theme was the best theme by far. Office is either too bright or too dark, nothing in the middle.

Starting to believe that there isn't another version coming.
