Samsung to Sony - I've made a mistake

Recommended Posts

So my trusty Galaxy Note 2 finally gave up on me and I went and upgraded.  To an Xperia Z3...

I think I've made a mistake.  I just am not comfortable with this handset - it doesn't integrate as well as the Samsung did with my home and car gear, but moreover it overheats after about 5 minutes playing with the camera.

I did this in-store from EE on Thursday.  Now, I'm obviously going to go back and say "Look this phone is not fit for use - it touts it's camera abilities, but they overheat the phone" but chances are they will just swap like for like.

I fear I have painted myself into a corner here.  I should have just gone for the Note4 and stuck with what I know.

Anyone wanna swap? LOL

You don't have a return window to work with? In the US you have at least 14 days to make a return if you aren't happy with the phone.

Something is wrong with your phone, it shouldn't overheat.

and how does it not integrate as well, they use the same OS. if anything, Sony tends to have DLNA and other connectivity solutions better integrated than Samsung, Sony also optimizes the OS for the the hardware much better than Samsung and actually optimizes the drivers and such, while Samsung just compiles basic drivers without caring about optimizing.  That doesn't even take Sony's superior build quality and material choices into consideration.

I'd get the phone replaced with a working one and take some time to learn how to use it, it's not like there's a huge difference.

I know it shouldn't, but it does.  And it's a well known (and documented) fault.  Sony's response: Record shorter videos.

It doesn't integrate as well as the Samsung as I have a Samsung TV that allowed the screencasting, doesn't seem to work from my Sony.  My car stereo used to display the MP3 metadata over Bluetooth, doesn't seem to work wit the Sony.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sony as a brand, and there are a lot of things great about this phone, but it's just an awkward fit for me.  Moreover, I REALLY miss the stylus.  I know I could carry one, but on the Note it was integrated, which was lovely.

If I had done it over the phone then yes, but in store no.  Looked into this.  Obviously I will ask in store anyway though.

That's very lame, I've never heard of a different return policy in-store, makes Best Buy seem good for once. I'm sorry to hear that.

In europe there's actual regulations for this, for store bought products where you are supposed to have the ability to see the product before or as you buy it, there's no regulated return policy, but many store chains still have them, even up to 30 days, over xmas even 30 days after xmas for items bough in november/december and are unopened.  For phone and internet bought, as well as door to door salesmen products though, There's a regulated return policy they have to abide by, the actual timeframe may vary from country to country.

Then we have laws like the not fit for purpose, but I don't think he'll be able to use that one this one.

He can however claim the phone overheats and return the phone... but Nik, why did you got a phone without a Stylus if that was so important? That phone does have some good advantages if you have the Sony ecosystem (PS4, for example), like Samsung does (Samsung smarttvs) and it's pretty resistant.

You can't replicate the note stylus on a phone without a digitizer. touch styli are just a fingertip on a stick.

Sony should send all the metadata like any other phone, check the player and make sure it's properly connected, and if possibly reset the car stereo it may be connected as a dumb headset.

also Samsung's screencasting is just DLNA by another name. I think Sony also has their own system which is also just plain DLNA with their own name.

he'll just get a replacement phone as the first one will be marked DOA.

Wow, result.  Went into store and demonstrated the issue where the manager watched.  He laughed and said it was ridiculous and said it's how everyone wants to be first to market with a feature.  He agreed that swapping like for like was not a solution, and suggested the nearest Samsung was the Alpha.  The Note4 is a more expensive handset, so I paid the

It is rather common with Snapdragon 800+ SoCs.  Camera, videos, and games heat up to be nice and toasty.

Those that do not notice it have the heat absorbed by a case.

  • 3 weeks later...

My note 4 heats up a bit.  I think the custom roms havent gotten power management down on the new note's though.  On stock, it ran perfectly.

Sony phones though, don't know anyone that was happy with one.
