Android Tablet OS/Customization Thread

I decided to get a small Android tablet to have a little something different than iOS. I got the 2017 Samsung Galaxy A 8". Really nice little device. I am not a fan of the Touchwiz stuff though. The last Android tablet I had was the awesome Nexus 7 and I loved vanilla Android. Is it possible to install vanilla Android on a Samsung device? And can I install Oreo? Right now it is on Nougat 7.1.

Help me understand this logic 1 2

I am using an NVMO called Tello who uses the Sprint PCS network. However I have been noticing that whenever I am on the phone, any app that needs internet (i.e. Lyft, maps, etc) does not work while I am on the phone call, but as soon as I hang up, it works. I called them today and asked them why this is, and I was told "We do not support that feature" "Our company policy forbids it" Why would any company choose to do this, and why would they do it? At this point and time, I am ready to cancel the service, even though I am paid up for another 4 months, and go to another carrier.

Google Pixel 4A (5G) will not download eSIM
by jnelsoninjax- 0 replies

I just switched to Visible wireless, and chose the eSIM option, ported my phone number over, but despite what I try to do, the Visible app fails to install the eSIM, and when I chat with support, they tell me to reset the network settings, and restart the phone, and try again, which I did, but it still fails. Now I have to wait a day or 2 for a physical SIM to send to me, and do not have a working phone until then. Does anyone else have any ideas as to what else I may be able to try?

On Sunday I was doing some cable management, including rehanging posters behind my computer desk (which is large, heavy and L shaped. Anyway, my computer was not hooked up and realising it was going to take me a little longer than I expected, I decided I was going to listen to a Tidal playlist on my Nvidia Shield (Dolby Atmos) home theater. Here's how it all went down. Fired up "Downloader" app searched for Tidal (I did not realise Tidal was actually in the Play Store for Android TV so I could have skipped the next three steps) Tidal result in Play Store, but I'm not logged into Play Store in "Downloader" browser Logged into Play Store, TV t…

Amazon Free Apps?

Is this still a thing? Years ago, Amazon gave away free apps through their store. I downloaded the store again but it only has apps I installed on a Fire about a year ago. Is there a way to see others from years gone by?

So this morning I noticed the back cover (Samsung Silicone back cover) was loose on the bottom left, pressed it and could hear a "pop" noise, took the cover off and lo and behold, another Samsung phone where my battery has started expanding after two years of use. I bought it second hand in January 2020 so I have had a good two years out of it, but I really hate the new phones with cut outs and holes in the screen, which is why I stuck with the Note9. I think all of Samsung's flagships have holes now. Anyway I called Samsung and they basically told me I can have it picked up for repair, but at my own cost. They wouldn't tell me, but from looking a…

I made the silly decision to root my tablet, but now I want to sell it on I prefer to be able to restore KNOX if possible. It is the SM-T580 (WiFi model) Right now it is reporting 0x1 (tripped) and I know "newer devices" can't be fixed because of a physically blown fuse when this happens, but does this also affect the 2016 Galaxy Tab A? I put the stock firmware back on it yesterday along with the Bootloader and CSC Home files, and that is the only thing still not "stock" right now.

Motorola Moto G20 upgrade to Android 12?
by kiddingguy- 1 reply

Will the Motorola Moto G20 be upgrade to Android 12? Or stay stuck on Android 11? Specifically in The Netherlands (Europe). Different sites have different opinions on that; some say 'yes', others 'no'. I am still in the possibility (return period) for a G30 (which is a def. upgradable as I understand).

Pixel 6 max shutter speed 3rd party apps.
by nukenorman- 1 follower

I am debating on getting a Pixel 6 pro but this question would also apply to pixel 6. I take lots of photos at night of stars with a tripod and so the LG and Samsung phones appealed to me cause they have a pro/manual camera mode that can change the settings such as ISO and shutter speed all the way to 30 seconds. The pixel series uses googles AI to take most photos so their is no manual/pro mode in the camera app BUT for taking pictures of stars it has a special astrophotography mode and while that is great I prefer to not realy on AI and change settings manually and shutter speed. I was thinking I could download a 3rd party camera app to do this but I do not have my h…

Similar to how iOS operated before they introduced widgets to Springboard. I currently use Nova Launcher but I don't think this is possible. Any ideas/alternative launchers?

So I updated my Pixel 4xl to OS12. I did so by DLing the factoring image and doing a dirty flash. No issues so far other than sometimes the tap to wake up the phone does not work and I have to reboot. Same with the face to unlock. Do not care to much for the large lock screen clock but unjoying the other changes.

Looking for an unlocked android phone >$200 range

My nieces' partner is in need of a new phone, and each time they receives a 'new' device, it is a used, and most of the time, damaged device from their mother who controls their money. I am willing to help and purchase a decent device and am looking for something around $200 or so, and needs to be unlocked. I checked Amazon and the selection is crap from what I can see. At this point I do not care brand or feature(s), just something new that works good. Right now I am looking for some guidance on what brand(s) to look at.

Hi everyone :) It's incredible, but it seems this is very niche. I'm currently looking for an app or a set of apps that will be able to launch a music player at a scheduled time and playback from a list of podcasts that I have in certain folders. I've managed to get Alarm Music which is doing its job (only played it with one song). It does seem to cut music from time to time, but I'd like to launch an actual music player, as I'd like to see the name of the song and pause/resume if needed. Any ideas? Thanks :)

AT&T and Xiaomi/Redmi 5G

Okay... thanks to moving forward in tech, AT&T is dropping almost any phone they deem unfit for this new tech. I have the Redmi Note Pro 8, and she ran like a dream.. had no issues with it. The "free" phone (an Android based Samsung A12), I've loving tagged it my "Samsung POS", just doesn't compare. So... my question to all you here, do any of you have a newer Redmi or Xiaomi phone on their 5G network? I'm looking into the Redmi Note Pro 10 5G, and she fits all the specs for the price range. Reason I am asking, is, if you go to their store.. and they hand you the list of phones that will work on the newer network, there is no listin…

Track another Android Phone?

This is where the iOS implimentation of "family" seems a lot easier Is there a way I can track another android phone without any special apps? My wife and I want to be able to track each other - not for anything dodgy but more for safety. I would like to think Google has some sort of "family" feature that can enable this? A family member was showing me how the Apple system works with this sort of thing and I was impressed. If his Son wants to download an app, it asks the parent first who can approve or deny. They can set time limits for games, and alternate time limits for other apps as well as track the phone easily, among other thing…

They are now moving to a new service, and my phone, Moto E4, isn't compatible. None of my phones that I have are compatible with it, either. I have used Twigby for ~3 years now, and haven't had any issues. Here are their phones: https://www.twigby.com/shop/twigby-phones I do not know what phones are able to "bring your own phone". None of mine are compatible.. BUT, is there any phone out of the link above, that are halfway decent phones? (No apples, please) Or are they all crap?
