WhatsApp launches a web client for Chrome and Android

It works also with the WP app. I tried it and it's pretty neat, but sadly your phone needs to be turned on and connected to the internet, as it's used by the web client to actually send the messages.

The client is now available only for chrome and android, devs cite iOS  is not available due to apple limitations

I wonder what is their excuse for not releasing an app for traditional windows?

I really don't understand the whatsapp devs. Why don't they just make an app that connects directly to their database and make it properly cross-platform.

That's the one thing that annoys me about whatsapp - why does it only work on my phone?

The database is stored on the phone itself though. So if you are talking about having it properly cross-platform either they have to keep the limitation of the phone being online all the time, or they have make some pretty large changes to how WhatsApp fundamentally works.

Or have a manual sync button "did you make any changes to your contact, sync" or have it auto sync around N amount of time. Validation could still be done from within the phone app itself, eg a system message giving you a code.

what is the point of this on android if there is already an app?

Well, to be honest, much of the day im on my computer, so this just makes it easier to check messages I guess.

naw, its not even an app, your phone needs to be actively connected to the internet for this to work... Its sort of an extension to your desktop.

I used to use viber, sadly, most of the people I talk to, are on whatsapp.
