MSN Messenger 5.0 for Mac announced!

Recommended Posts

Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit has announced several updates to products at Macworld Conference & Expo on Tuesday, including MSN Messenger 5.0.

Version 5.0 of MSN Messenger for Mac will be released in the first half of 2005, adding several new features, like improved security and the ability to add users listed in a company?s Global Address List (GAL) or corporate address book. It will also enable users to view both personal and corporate messaging accounts from one location.

Other improvements remain unknown but we're hoping there will be plenty. As you can judge yourself from this feature comparison table, MSN Messenger for Mac has a lot to catch up with if it wants to match up with the Windows client.

Wow - it does actually look better than the Windows version. Finally, my friends can stop pestering me about my display picture, but I can still tell them that I can't get the 'games to work on my computer'.

I'm impressed Microsoft. Shame I'm about to ditch most of the Office suite for iWork, but you can't win them all, can you?

:)

ya, what a VERY fair poll. its like microsoft.com having a poll "what OS do you use"

"Mac"

"Windows XP"

"linux / other"

of cource windows is gonna win. they got that same poll on MSN Messenger for Mac. Thats so bias!

That even looks better than the upcoming msn7

You could just download a skin to have it like that....

They deserve the damn update. Its about time for MS to give Mac users the chance of compatibility with Windows users.

Next: MSN Messenger for Linux :D

A simple skin is not going to add the functionality. By looks I dont mean the appareance, but the functionaltiy.

Hmmm im confused hehe

How can looks = functionality?

looks are apparance.....Maybe i mistook the context of what you were saying. I said it looks better than the upcoming MSN. By apparence yes it does and i said that it could be changed with a skin. By looks as features, MSN 7 brings little changes while MSN 5 Mac brings big changes from its last (and current) version. I think you mean the second one right..................

I'm not a MAC user, but it sounds nice. It's really funny that Microsoft creates software for the Macintosh  :p

Bill Gates aka Microsoft started out in life writing software for Apple, then the giants compared to the Microsoft minnows. Strange twist of fate really. Maybe if the bold Bill hadn't stolen the Macintosh iconic operating system for his Windows, things would be a lot different.....

That aside, Microsoft's 20 years of writing Mac software, you'd think that they would at least ensure Messenger for Mac had all the fuctionality of its Windows equivalent. If they can produce better versions of their Office suite on the Mac, there is no reason Messenger should lag behind..

    • I disagree; they come off very "bitchy" and "whiny". Make a great product and combine that with a great price (free) and people will come over to your side. Or build it and they will come as they say. Constantly trying to get attention by complaining all the time, will turn people off to your product.
    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.
    • Brave Browser 1.91.171 by Razvan Serea Brave Browser is a lightning-fast, secure web browser that stands out from the competition with its focus on privacy, security, and speed. With features like HTTPS Everywhere and built-in tracker blocking, Brave keeps your online activities safe from prying eyes. Brave is one of the safest browsers on the market today. It blocks third-party data storage. It protects from browser fingerprinting. And it does all this by default. Speed - Brave is built on Chromium, the same technology that powers Google Chrome, and is optimized for speed, providing a fast and responsive browsing experience. Brave Browser also features Brave Rewards, a system that rewards users with Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for viewing opt-in ads. This innovative system provides an alternative revenue model for content creators and a way to support the Brave community. SlimBrave Neo takes all the good things about Brave and makes them even better by keeping everything clean, light, and privacy-focused. It removes the extra clutter, turns off features you might not need, and cuts down on anything that could slow you down or collect unnecessary data. Because it relies on simple settings and policies instead of modifying the browser itself, you still get full Brave compatibility—just in a smoother, lighter, and more privacy-friendly package. • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
