one of my english cousins is visiting me here in the states and wants to buy an mp3 player while he's here, as with the ridiculous exchange rates they are far cheaper here. we were browsing newegg (i have convinced him of newegg's greatness) and we found this mp3 player:

For the price of a 20 GB ipod, you get 30 GB, compatibility with realplayer/wmp, etc.

just checking with you guys about if you know of any serious defects in this product.

I have one of those. No problem until now :D

The only thing that I don't like it's that you DO need the program to trasnfer Mp3s AND data.

I'd be best if you could just plug it in and ready to transfer, even if it were only data. But out of that, it's all great.

do you mean that you need to use realplayer/wmp/etc. to transfer songs to it? on nicer mp3 players like ipods that's normal...

Not that. I mean that in order to transfer MP3s/Data to it, you must install the software that comes with the player.

Alright mp3 player with a couple of problems.

Firstly, It's really really big.

Secondly, it'll break if you touch it. Well maybe thats an overstatment but from what ive heard they are of a very poor build quality.

Just check out any customer reviews websites, many people have had the headphone jack go within weeks of purchase. And this is made worse by the fact that it only comes with a 6 month warrenty.

Poor build quality? I dropped mine several times. The Zen Xtra AFAIK has much less trouble than the Touch or Micro.

Big? If you compare its specs with say an iPod or a H320, it's only a tad larger.

Headphone jack problem = fixed in the newest batch of Xtras (product ID ends with 32).

6 month warranty? No, one year warranty :).

The included media organizer sucks, but the Nomad Explorer is perfect if you use it with the free NomadSynch.

Search this forum if you want more opinions on this DAP.

My friend has one. He protects it with a home-made duct tape case that looks like crap (he says it's to keep people from stealing it). Anyways, it seems a fine player except for its size. Also my friend had some firmware issues, the thing seemed to die... but a couple of button presses/resets and it was fine again.
